So about five weeks ago my beloved bearded dragon, Quigley went missing.
I usually let him cruise around, eating dandilion flowers and soaking up sun around my backyard on warm days. He has his areas where he likes to hang out. Usually on top of my orange tree or inside of my pink jasmine. He will hang outside for a few hours, then I bring him in sometime in the afternoon. This has worked out great as he is very predictable, my yard isn't huge and I can always find him after about 5 minutes of looking around my yard.
Until 5 weeks ago.
I could not find him after he'd been out for 30 minutes.
I looked high and low, as he does like to climb the bamboo as well.
After two days I got really worried. Because anyone that lives in SoCal knows its been pretty cold, Last week my whole neighborhood had frozen rooftops and windshields in the morning. And I live in Huntington Beach! Thats cold.
So I had been searching, on my knees looking for old Quigley. After two weeks I had given up hope that he was alive. I thought that someday I might find tiny beardie bones in my yard. However, I always kept looking for him just in case.
On sunday I went to my friends house to work on his RV. I was gone all day.
So I come home at around 7 o'clock, no big deal. I said hi to my son and he had a grin on his face. I took a second look and low and behold, there's Quigley. On his shoulder, looking good as ever.
WHAT!!!!!!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!
wife was in the backyard while I was gone, just tending to the yard. She saw him sunning under the bamboo. There he was, jnust sitting there.
He has been outside for FIVE WEEKS in FREEZING temperatures.
And he is fat and healthy and seems like nothing happend.
I guess they are way more hardy than I ever realized. I mean If a Human was stuck out for that long, I'm sure they would have some serious problems afterwards, but Quig seems perfect.
I dont want to ramble too long, but I just so happy.
Here are a few pics I took about 10 minutes ago.
By the way, Quigley is about 3 years old. I took him in as a rescue about a year ago. The previous owner told he was about 2 at that time.
He has been one of my favorite animals I've ever had. He is very special to me and my family.
I was absolutely heartbroken when he was on the lamb.
