At what size do most radiateds become less shy?
Where you can pick them up and they don't retreat into their carapace and don't run away as soon as you put them down?
I've been told the older ones get quite tame and some even follow you around the yard.

They all do it at different ages. It takes time after all you are the big scary giant picking them up . Keep with it he will learn your not going to eat him.

Each tort is different in my opinion, I have a few radiated and personalities are different. I have a 5 inch female,,,, when she sees me she comes running and will climb into the palm of my hand. My radiated are not very shy

I agree with Tom. We've hand fed ours since they were hatchlings and they're all extremely trusting and outgoing. They actually seem to enjoy human interaction and love to get their heads and chins scratched.

Good statements posted. I agree with Tom and Mike. Hand feeding will remedy that. I do not hand feed mine and he has come around but still is shy. He won't tuck in but does not fancy being picked up. He will be 10 on November 4th. As a wee little guy he was very shy. But over the years of recognition and knowing he is safe they tend to overcome that shyness. But it will not happen over night.
