It's quite common to lose produce until the baby settles in, but stay on it; it will open up and might eventually eat from your Hand [FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE][TURTLE] all of mine do shyness eventually goes buH bye best of luck and congrats
agree with everything already posted. Just be patient...it will come around. Things to check for: enclosure substrate, heat and lighting. Sometimes when mine are young and new to the group, I place them near the food dish. This might spark them to eat, but don't worry if they turn around and head for a hiding spot. A week or so, might find them acting differently. I have two Bolivians that I am soaking everyday. They seem to associate soak with feeding as that is when I put in their fresh food. This might work for you as well.
Thanks for all the info I just worry if I don't see my reptiles eat , I think he or she is just shy ,and is 85 too low of a basking temp ?
As of right now I have a bask bulb and 5,0 UVB but tomorrow I'm switching to a 100w powersun ,
is that a good idea ?

Hello petite and hello Dixie ,I didn't want to say point the baby to the food but yes put it facing the food.try some sweet potatoes they can't resist them. R.f.s are hardy ,hold off on buying more bulbs,spending more money,I'm not sure they like blinding bright lights anyway.she will prolly eat from your fingers by tomorrow ( mine love nice ripe fruit,especially those gold pears.)what's her name ?where did she come from?is she a new hatchling? ....really, they get to be like puppy's ,Moines are in trouble right now,they are in a big round tub,with a spot light so I can work on their house,they climb all over your hands as you try to tydie up, they had a spa day today ,went for a swim/soak then enjoyed a organic brunch ,acorn squash,Italian dandylion.chopped pear(very little)and a garnish of crumbled mazurie soaked in pedia lite( the new fruit flavor), I really prepared the meal with my yellofoots in mind ( theyneeded the TLC yellows are so mellow,sweet and gentle don't know why they are not more popular,I think they are prettier to,maybe yellow keepers are like yellow foot torts and are less inclined to post,stick out their neck so to speak,ha,get it?)w/love.

When you turn the power sun on what does your redfoot do? It may be too bright for him. That could be why he is hiding? Do you leave it on day and night? What do you use for nighttime heat?
Sounds like he doesnt like the bright lights. Try a regular household bulb not the florescent one. The round ones. A 60 watt...i bet that the lights are too much for him. I would also suggest a che..ceramic heat emitter. For nighttime heating. It doesnt give off light. What are your temps?

I agree that the powersun will increase the heat, but you'd definitely need tons of plants for shade since bright light is something reds tend to hide from. All the shade you'd put in kinda negates the basking spot, so see how they react.
