I have had this Redfoot for 9 months. I named it Rosemary but think it might be a fella.
This tortoise is 6 inches. Recently she started making noises, especially when soaking similar to what people describe as clucking. It is a soft yet distinct noise.
What do you think about sex? Age?

Thanks!

My new redfoot makes those clucking noises. She is about 10 inches and was identified on this forum as a female. Do the noises suggest anything to do with sexing?

Thanks Heather!
I thought this one was leaning towards male, only because of the dofference between this 6 inch and two 5 1/2 inch that I have.

Kathyth, from what I know I think it's a dude.

Is it the same one as the one in your pic by your name?

Ohhh they looked the same to me but any way from what I was told if the tort is more long or oval like its a male and females are more circular to support eggs plus to me in that pic at least it looked like his/her cloaca hangs down more

Im going to guess male. Looks like it is getting the " peanut " shape. Also the males do the clucking as a breeding trait. My male is doing it noe and he is looking for a female. But watch for the changes in the mid section. Which will def. Tell you the sex.

Definitely agree with you mainey34... Look for the tail to lengthen and the peanut or pinched waist to become more noticeable ...it will happen fast! In a few months...tyrone was the same way ..clucking away one day and flashing me his manly bits a few months later! He seemed to grow over night!

But get ready for all kinds of crazy noises!

I definitely appreciate the input of all.
My guess changed from ?? Female to male about 6 months ago. If I turned this one over and 2 others that are close in SCL there is a significant difference.
I'm thinking that Rosemary just may not fit his tortoise. 😊

How about Rufus or Marty? Both manly names! ;)

Definitely male. I have been doing extensive research on how to tell tortoise males from females, and what you got there is definitely a male tortoise. You can tell by the wide- open area where the tail comes out. The females' area is literally more egg- shaped! :)
