I'm hoping she's a Testudo kazachstanica because that's the subspecies that I have. But I'm afraid she's a T. rustamovi. I've sent an email to a fellow I know who is good at I.D.ing the subspecies, but I haven't heard back from him yet.

If she's NOT a kazachstanica, she'll be up for adoption in a couple weeks.

Ok, Rob...since you're local and I've already done a yard inspection, you'll be first on the list.

She's a biggen. Best of luck she is what you want. If not, looks like she will have a good home coming up. Congrats to whoever gets to keep her:)

Two of my females are 'rustamovi' and they are longer and narrower. She looks quite domed, so my guess is she's of the regular 'horsfieldii' subspecies? I thought the 'kazachstani' subspecies is flatter.

She's a big girl, whatever subspecies she is. :) How fun!

Turns out she's a T. horsefieldii horsefieldii, so in a couple weeks after I'm sure her owner has had time to miss her and read my classified ad, she'll be going to Robert's house.

I walk around the yard with the prospective adopter and look for the things listed below. And while we're walking and talking, I'm getting a feel for the person and if they really understand what they're getting into. Some of the things listed below are not absolutely necessary, but it gives them food for thought.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR DURING YARD INSPECTION

Is habitat large enough for this species?---

Fencing Tall enough?--

Secure at bottom to prevent digging?-------------

Is fence “see through”?-----

Gates Do gates latch securely?----

Is there a spring for automatic closing?-----

Does tortoise have access to whole yard?-----
(Games like softball and soccer can adversely affect turtles or tortoises, which may be in the path of a child not watching where he is running)

Is there a dog?---
(Dogs WILL chew on tortoises and turtles)

Is there a pool?------
Fenced?-------
(Tortoises cannot swim and will drown in an unfenced pool)

Is there shelter from the sun?------
From the rain?-----
From the cold?-----

Is there an adequate water supply?----

Is there a clean area for feeding?-----

Is the enclosure planted with plants that are good for them to eat?-
To hide in?---------

Is there grass or weeds for grazing?---

Are the tops of the corners guarded to inhibit climbing?---

Is there a separate enclosure for each species?----

Is the hibernation area for tortoises dry?----
For box turtles moist?----

Is there a warm area or warm house for non-hibernating species?---

Pond Large enough?----
Deep enough?----
Meets needs of turtle for basking, swimming, hiding, eating?---

TEMPORARY indoor enclosures - Full spectrum lighting?---
Adequate heating?-----
Substrate that will not harm if ingested?-
