photo.JPG Hi everyone. I'm Jes. I just recently came into care of a Russian (I think?) tortoise from an unpleasant situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. She is eating diet of greens, kale, red leaf lettuce, squash and zucchini (which she loves, so I hope its good for her). I am looking for some of the other things on the diet list from russiantortise.net. Also, my biggest question is about the substrate for her. I have her on reptile bark (that is what she was on when I got her). the vet said she likes paper (but I'm worried about a fire hazard with the heat light). I've also read about tortoises being put on sand. Any advice is very welcome...
Nice to meet every one.
Jes

Welcome :) Russians are awesome :) Do you have a better picture of your tortoise so I can see if it is a Russian. I personally do not like sand or reptibark I use Eco Earth Cononut fiber for there substrate :)

What you have is not a Russian tortoise, it is a Hermanni tortoise.

Go to the section for Hermanni tortoise you will find lots information for the care.

Welcome!!
