RE: what's turtle?

It looks like some type of wood turtle. I'll bet Gerards would know.

I don't think its a north american mud turtle species because the plastron doesnt appear to be hinged. But I'm stumped. I was suspecting african mud or helmted turtle

Very intrigued.

It is not Kinosternon. It's not a Pelusios either.

It is going to be very tough to ID this turtle without a country of origin. Where was it found. I have a feeling this is going to be a good one.

It actually looks like it could be a worn down Melanochelys, which would be awesome to see.

It can't be Kinosternon without there being two hinges on the plastron. This turtle has zero plastral hinges.

diamondbp is the best aquatic ID person here, and he is stumped as well. No offense to my friend Gerard.

Some geographic information would do wonders for the proper IDing of this turtle. I'm sure this animal was not purchased at a pet store in Little Rock if you catch my drift.

Deutsch is in Thailand.

Nice!!

So there is a great chance that it IS Melanochelys!

I'm thinking it is most likely Melanochelys trijuga (Indian Black Pond Turtle) which is native to Western Thailand

If it is indeed Melanochelys, they are protected in Thailand and their capture is prohibited.
