Hi Tamra. I just sent a reply to your message.
Tom, I noticed you still have some platynoba hatchlings available. Do you know if you have males? If so, I'd be interested in knowing your price. Please forgive me if there is another more private way got contact you, as I'm new to the forum. Let me know and we can continue our discussion there. Thank you.

I'm afraid he's going to die on me simply because I don't know how to treat him. . Do you have any advice for me? And please don't tell me to call my sister.....we're sort of not getting along. She says I should just let him die, NOT gonna do that until I have done everything I can do. Can you help me?

....I have a 14 yr old CDT with mycoplasma. His nares are closed with something that looks like a scab. I used to soak him and open things up so he could breathe. Then I got some spray benadryl now I have the liquid. He stopped eating last Friday. So now I'm giving him the oral stuff. I can't afford the $72+ for his Vet.
Hi Tom, my tortoise has really dry skin around his eyes and basically on his whole face. He sleeps a lot too. Does he have a health issue? How do you treat dry skin?
Tom, Im here in SCV the rain popped my fuse. While checking on my radient heater I accidently changed the temp. I thought it was between 76 and 78. Is that the temp correcy for my night box?

I go up to 85 in winter since they don't have any other way to warm up on a cold overcast day.

hey tom i was wondering i just got my russian tortoise and is it ok to mix repti bark with eco earth loose cocunut an dhe is alway digging in the corner is he trying to get out?
    Tom
    Tom
I prefer coco coir for babies and fine orchid bark for older ones. I see no reason or purpose for mixing them, but I also don't think it will hurt anything.

What size enclosure is it? When they are kept in something too small, this escape behavior is more common. Most of them settle in after a few days in their new territory.

Hi Tom, hoping you can help me out here again For some reason this past week he has refused to eat and literally walks around and around his table all day!
I soak him in the morning for 10-20 min and then after that the walking starts. At night he goes into his hide as usual. I'm really getting worried and don't know how long he can go without eating or why this behaviour has started?

Hi Lynn. Start a thread on the forum and explain what species and size tortoise we are talking about. Also give the details of the problem and how you are housing and heating and lighting your tortoise.
Hey Tom I had a quick question. I'm using the ceramic basking heater and combined with the plastic top it stayed a steady 80-85° in the tank. Because this doesn't produce light would it be alright to leave it on at night? that's the only heat source inside of his tank, with it off at night the temp dips to 70°

I was also wondering if I should get a second ceramic light in there to keep the temps above 85°

Yes. Leave it on at night. But also get a thermostat to run it for you. I like the Zilla 1000 watt one and they only cost about $30.
Hi Tom, I'm trying to find a simple answer. Do we really need to be overly concerned regarding salmonella with the desert tortoise hatchlings? We are washing our hands after touching the tortoises and we're laying down a towel when we set them down outside of their indoor habitat. But do we need to be wiping off door knobs Etc? Thank you for your help in advance. I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving
    Tom
    Tom
In my opinion, no. Salmonella is everywhere. If a biologist cultured your babies, they would likely find it. They would also likely find it on the phone, computer, kitchen counter or sink of people who don't even own animals of any kind. Its everywhere. In dealing with all manner of chelonians, other reptiles, and all sorts of exotic species for decades, I've never had one issue with salmonella.

Use basic hygiene and common sense, but I don't give one thought to this issue anymore, except when someone asks and I raise dozens of hatchlings every year.
Tom your plan for the box was great. She loves it and i don't have to worry about her getting a ill.
Happy turkey day. Since I'm cooking yams and sweet dreams potatoes I was wondering if I could give my Salcutta the peels. Shes 5-7 years old & about a foot long. What do you think?

I fed some of those to my tortoises today! I mix it in with grass or greens of some sort, so that its a relatively small percentage of the food.
Tom..Don't know if you remember me but I have a couple of questions and want to keep it in a private conversation. How do I contact some of the old timers in private? I know this is a stupid question but I can't figure it out..lol

    Hi Tom.
Where in SoCal are you located? How do I find out when you have tortoises available? Do you have a website somewhere?
Hey Tom, I have a baby white leopard that is almost 2 yrs old. Gambino is about 296 grams currently. We wanted to look to purchase one of your giant SA leopards. Would these two be able to live together in the same enclosure? We would like one that is on the younger side and is roughly the same size.
    Tom
    Tom
People seldom sell anything other than hatchlings. I won't have any hatching until January.

Tortoises should never be housed in pairs. You could buy three babies and then house the three of them all together with your older when they are closer to the same size.

Do a thread and post pics of your current one. I'd love to see it.
Hi Tom, I’m looking for radiated tortoise to buy. I don’t want to get a CBW permit to get the tortoise from a different state. I live in LA and I read your post that you know people sell radiated tortoise in So California. Can you let me know the info for getting them? You can email me [email protected]. Thanks
