Mom Ordered Artemis Suprise Tortoise Garden!

I have every one of these, but Leo hasn’t taken to any of them. I wish he’d eat the Mazuri, especially, but I haven’t had any luck with either the regular or the LS. I’ve soaked them, mixed them with other foods, even tried fooling him by adding some red food coloring… he’s so good at eating...

Is Anyone In The UK Giving Their Tortoises's Extra Soaking In The Heatwave?

That sounds lovely! We’ll still have high temps of 100F by this time in September in my neck of the woods.

Is Anyone In The UK Giving Their Tortoises's Extra Soaking In The Heatwave?

Definitely a good thing! Hang in there, I read you should have some relief by Tuesday evening. 🥵

Is Anyone In The UK Giving Their Tortoises's Extra Soaking In The Heatwave?

Yes, I agree. I do have a sprinkler going during the hottest times if the day, but our yard is rather large and his preferred shelters are in different areas. I do have our irrigation timed to water the trees daily, in hopes that he’ll be able to sufficiently moderate his temp by going under...

Is Anyone In The UK Giving Their Tortoises's Extra Soaking In The Heatwave?

Hi there from ridiculously hot AZ, where the high yesterday was 115F (44C). For what it’s worth, I soak Leo daily on Friday through Sunday, which are my days off. He lives outside this time of year, but with the temps getting so high I’ve been driving home from work mid-morning to retrieve him...

    Rock stuck in mouth

Thank you. I’ll do that, if it ever happens again… hopefully, it won’t. He gave me quite a scare! Thanks again for the help.

    Rock stuck in mouth

Well, he’s been on the tortoise treadmill for about 45 minutes and it was productive. Very productive. So I think he’s okay, but I’ll keep an eye on him. Sorry for the mini-meltdown, I just love the little guy. I don’t think the feeling is mutual, though. ;-)

    Rock stuck in mouth

Thank you. He was not sticking his head out for me no matter how I held him… but he did release his bladder, so I’ve definitely traumatized him. He finally stuck his head out while in his soak, and I could determine that his mouth is now closed - nothing lodged in there. I really hope he...

    Rock stuck in mouth

The soaking seems to have worked, the rock/clump of dirt seems to have dissolved. I don’t see a rock in the water but there is some dirt, so I hope that he didn’t swallow it. Now, I am on poop watch.

    Rock stuck in mouth

My Sulcata, Leo, just emerged from his hiding place in my yard. I went to see him and saw that he has a large rock/hard clump of dirt stuck in his mouth. I tried to pull it out, but the front part just crumbled in my fingers and now he’s pulled his head in and locked up with his arms. I have...

I Wish Less People Would Not Be Cruel To The Sweet , Lovely Creatures Latey!!!!

You quoted my post, but I did not suggest people should take classes... although I do think that it's really important to try to learn as much as possible. But no, wasn't my suggestion. :-)

I Wish Less People Would Not Be Cruel To The Sweet , Lovely Creatures Latey!!!!

I plan on sticking around; I'm here for the duration! One day I need to post a proper intro. I tend to be a little wordy (understatement of the year, obviously) so it'll wait until I have time. This site - and its members - are incredible, and the best source of info I could ever hope to find...

No worries, I literally laughed out loud! I'm still smiling. I'm easily amused, maybe.

My Pepper is a short-haired version of Simon - same coloring. I wish I had pics of my guys on this computer! Jackson has more black, just has the white chest/belly and paws. And Jackson's fur length is similar to Simon's. No skunks for them to look at where I live, but plenty of quail...

Simon is a big boy! But his.. interests?.. jibe with my two kitties', LOL. Both he and Simon are beautiful! I have a couple tuxedo kitties - Jackson and Pepper. They are a couple of characters.

I Wish Less People Would Not Be Cruel To The Sweet , Lovely Creatures Latey!!!!

If I ever run into you and/or others from TFO, I will gladly buy you a beer/meal/whatever you like. I am a cat person. I have researched the best way to take care of my cats and do everything I can to keep them healthy and enriched. Once I learned I'd been doing something incorrectly, I felt...

It most certainly does help. I am beyond grateful for everyone's generosity in sharing their experiences and wisdom; it has helped me tremendously in learning to properly care for my surprise Sulcata.

    Not active

I have a similar insulated night box for my sulcata, Leo. I have a Kane heat mat in mine, but I read that it should not be covered with anything but one of Kane's covers. I have substrate (coco coir) in the box, but I have been trying to keep it off the heat mat; does anyone know if this is...
