When should I give my tortoise calcium!!!

i live in the very cloudy PNW, so i bought calcium with the d3. i use it a couple of times a week sprinkled on their food in the months they are indoors, which is about 9 months a year. sometimes they won't eat the pieces that it is sprinkled on and i figure that is their way of self regulating.

    Help please. (soft plastron)

Get a good UVB light, like Tom says. They are on Amazon. It will take a couple days to get to you, so, in the meantime, take your tortoise outside. 20 minutes on sunny warm days, even after the bulbs arrive. Your local pet store might carry them too. Calcium on their food a couple times a week...

    Oiling the shell

i've done it a couple, three, times with my 3 horsfields. i've noticed, for weeks after an application, that when i soak them they stay dry:/ like waxing a car, (HA! turtle wax)! (sorry, could resist the joke). the water beads up, so, now i am worried their soaks are not able to penetrate...
