    Self inflicted shell damage?

Jeff, as a Tort'er and a Bird'er, Please reconsider the Rat Bait. There is a good chance that the rats will eat the bait, then scurry off to die. If not in a lair, they can also become food for a local bird of prey or buzzard, (secondary Kill) or some other creature looking for food and you...

    Would You Believe It!

I would worry about Daisy aspirating the water. When My Gigantor (Hermann's) had stoped eating & the vet was tube feednig I wanted to be taught how to do It myself, and the Vet refused, because they did not want me doing incorrectly and have the food going down into his lungs. Not saying you...

    COLD DARK ROOM

Yes, tell me about it, I have a one eyed beagle for the last 10 years (she was about 5 when I got her from the rescue) , over the last 2 years she has lost the sight in the one eye she has, the Dr. says it's cataracts, and says the operation will make her Totally blind. Right now, I believe she...

Angie, @zolasmum , My apologies to Zola for mis-writing his name . . "Seymour is a Leopard Tort, He has some pyramiding, as I had not found this site when he was younger. But, he's active, eats well, get's his soaks, and is a dang sneaker. In another thread someone mentioned that they have the...

    Hello From Oota

Is it right, No, should people learn about the care of a species before they get it, yes, does that happen all the time no, then how do we work that out with folks that have had a tort for 3 years and may not want to give it up.

    Hello From Oota

Well. at this point in time, going form a 40 gallon aquarium to a 4 x 8 would be going from living in a closet to living in a 2 bedroom apartment. Granted, it needs more space (a 3 bedroom home), but sometimes it is not knowing what resources a person has, to tell them they need a 20 x 40 back...

My first enclosure, less than $75 spent

Yes, I agree with @wellington, your lil one needs to be in a closed chamber environment. It might be able to be outside for an hour or so for UVB, but ALL the other time needs to be in a closed chamber with the correct humidity!

Are these plants safe to be growing in my yard that Tortoise has access to? Thanks

Hum, I'm not so sure of a verigated Spider plant for the third picture. I'm not exactly sure what it is, But a true Spider plant that size would have a LOT of baby spiders forming.

    Hello From Oota

Hello Oota, welcome to TFO (Tortoise forum). We're all here to help, we love ALL Tort's, even the torts of others. I'm sorry to say that a 40 gallon tank is way too SMALL for a 3 year old tort. It needs a much bigger area for it to have a healthy, happy life. The recommended size is 4 foot by 8...

THE Road Widening - A Continuing Saga

I would venture to say that they will be putting in a french drain in behind the wall, then back-fill with existing or new soil. to level the grade on your side of the wall.

Thank you, Yes, he is quite handsome. I wasn't originally planing on getting him. An old roommate (Penny) wanted to get a Leopard, But she lives on SS, thus has little $. So, I told her I would get him, and she could care for him. I assumed she would take him when she moved out, But she had a...
