I'm pretty sure you have the same type of trees I have. It takes several years for them to produce a flower bud. After they bud out they die. But you get new young plants from that one before they die.

    Things I Do

Mulberry trees are a great source of food for a varied tortoise diet. I have mentioned in earlier threads that I cut most of mine back to the trunk. By doing this I don't get any berries because new growth doesn't produce berries. But I get very large leaves for feedings. I don't cut branches to...

    Shy tortoise

Be patient, most sulcatas don't like change but in time will they will trust you and feel more comfortable with the surroundings. The bigger they get the more confident they get with you being around. Don't force yourself on her, wait for her to come to you.

    Things I Do

I use a small sunjoe electric lawn mower with a bag. It's all plastic except the blades and axles. So nothing requires oiling. It has payed for itself several times over the years. I'm not sure what they cost today but I payed $89 shipped.

    Things I Do

For years I've collected leaves and harvested grass and weeds from my yard starting in September for winter feeding. This year it hit me that in the spring there are great weeds growing that aren't around any longer in late summer. So this year I've been harvesting and drying while the early...

This may be the first year I have a chance to see what the ripe bananas look like an early bloom with little banana's back in the shadow already. Never had a bloom this early. Had a forum member come by a couple years ago that was from Thailand to get plants and he said after they get 4 rings of...

Some of mine look like they have a female end when packaged for sale. After opening it the male end needs to be slid out. Maybe that's what you have.

How deep should the walls go for a Hermanns Tortoise?

This is how I secure my Herman's I use 2x12 #1 lumber and cap the entire enclosure. On the bottom I us thisI lay it on the ground without digging down and set the boards on it. Doing this they will have to start digging down several inches away from the wall which has never happened here. This...

    Hanging out at the Wall

Galloper is on her way to her new home. It's about an hour from here. Hopefully the males will settle down now. She has grown greatly since getting here. I'm going to move Thomas over to her area and remove the barrier separating Squiggy from Thomas. That will give them both more room wander.

Misty (did I tell you I got a puppy?)

It would not be selfish to get another dog of any age or breed no matter how old you are. There is a dog out there that wants your love and it will love you more than it loves itself even if it's only for a short time.

Stephs are serious and you have people that depend on you being here tomorrow. So I wouldn't worry about the fishing trip and think more about the people that depend on you being here today and tomorrow. Just take care of yourself for your health and the benefit of the others. I'm in a...

    Mama???

I love when opossums chose to live near me. Infact if I know one or more are out there I'll put food out for them daily to keep them around. Why, because they eat TICKS and don't really bother anything else.

    The First One This Spring

Today I was getting rid of some more vines and decided to cut a rosemary plant back that really needed a trim. And this guy was at the base of it.I believe he's 4 years old and one that I see every year. Today was the first time I picked him up to get a better picture of him. He didn't mind...

That surprises me I've already cut my weedy lawn twice. I'm located a little southeast of Washington DC on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. How about edible tree leaves (mulberry, rose of Sharon) any of them available for you to feed?

    Donald's Thread

Yes that's a good one. Where you are located there should be plenty of safe edible weeds growing near by. That's if the area is untreated with chemicals. Wild weeds are much better for a tortoise than store bought greens.

Spinach isn't a no feed, I feed it as part of a varied diet and never saw any ill effects from feeding it. In the store bought salad mixes usually spinach is a small percentage of the total contents.
