Opinions please on sex of new baby Sri Lankan.

Thanks Kingsley. I'm beginning to think its a female too. The carapace is very domed and round to be a male at this stage. It would have been great to have a spare male as looks like its a group of 5 females and 1 male. I'll have to try and source another if possible. Still pleased as I think...

Look What Popped Up In The Adult Enclosure...

The fact they were unexpected and an 'insitu' incubation must make it a very pleasant surprise. Congratulations on your new babies.

    Indian Star?

Here in the UK we keep ours indoors except during the warmer summer weather. Then they have an indoor pen in the greenhouse with basking area and access to an outdoor run. Each night they're brought inside. Overall we have found them easier to manage in vivariums which allow for better control...

New Sri Lankan group settling well

Thank you Neal for your kind comment :) Tom - thank you for your comments and observations. At the moment they're in quarantine and have been treated for internal parasites. During treatment I do find beech chips allow for easy observation of stools and urine/urates. I can assess volume...

Opinions please on sex of new baby Sri Lankan.

Thank you for the very helpful comparison pictures Gus. Appreciate your valuable comment Neal. I think if our young adults breed I'll have to incubate for mixed sexes and run on some hatchlings as an insurance policy.

Opinions please on sex of new baby Sri Lankan.

Oh it's still small. Length is 7cm and weight 110gm. I can see what you mean with the tail but it's a hard one to call at present. The known females do have very short stubby tails.

New Sri Lankan group settling well

Its now 5 weeks since we got our group of Sri Lankan Stars. A trio of young adults and a ?trio of youngsters. Since arriving they've all been treated for worms and flagelletes following faecal analysis. The combination of Panacur and then Flagyl appears to have been sucessful as demonstrated by...

Opinions please on sex of new baby Sri Lankan.

Thanks for your opinion Tom and highly valued. I also have a hunch its female by its overall domed shape. The new group are doing well and steadily gaining weight though I followed your guidelines for temperature and humidity. They seem to do better when kept warm with an overall minimum of...

    Sexing a year old Sulcata

I had a pretty good idea when 2 of my hatchlings were just under 4 inches. A year later and they're around 8 to 9 inches and I'm becoming more convinced I'm right. I've found the young females tend to have upside down 'U' shape to the anal opening and that the anal scutes curve inwards. Here's...

New High Domed Sulcata from Spain

The picture above was taken yesterday. The new male is 30 months and is 29cm and 4.1kg. We're pretty certain of his sex. The ?females were hatched August 2014. They're now - 21.5cm & 1.75kg and the smaller is 20cm & 1.35kg. When we got the females last December I think they were around 300gm...

    Dot may be ill...

Hi there. So sorry to read that your baby ill and hope it pulls round. Just a thought but have you had the stools screened for protazoan infection. My friend had similar problems with a Mediterranean tortoise. The result was a protozoan infection that responed to treatment. May not be the case...

New High Domed Sulcata from Spain

Hi All. We're already growing on 2 ?female Sulcatas that are now 14 months and growing like weeds. The females are sisters from suspected Sudanese bloodline (father weighs over 200lbs). Now we've imported a light coloured 29cm ?male from Spain. He's settled in very well and we love his high...
