Tricking my 3 year old Tortoise into eating

She’s a Horsefield, well anything healthy she isn’t mad keen on, same as most kids, I put it out everyday for her as well as some local outdoor weeds but if I have to trick some correct healthy food into her with a bit of salad I say that’s a win

Tricking my 3 year old Tortoise into eating

So I just started my Tortoise on this new food called Arcadia Optimized52, she loved it for the first two days but has now gone off it Today I decided to try and trick her, I got all the Optimized weeds and flowers and wrapped them into bits of salad to create a salad burrito I don’t like...

    Tortoise lighting/heat

Would one of these dual light fixtures be suitable for use when hung over a tortoise table, one with a UVB bulb and the other heat bulb, each socket has independent switches so both can be thermostatically controlled. And if not what would you recommend as I need to upgrade both. Thanks!

Tortoise not eaten since late September

So my 3 year old Russian tortoise hasn’t eaten since late September, it’s become very cold here in the U.K She is bathed every day to keep her hydrated but I’m becoming more worried at how long she hasn’t eaten for The temperatures are good in her enclosure ( 34 degrees C basking spot ), health...

    Shell rot?

Thanks wellington Those markings are from the breeder, it was the letter i and after 2 years it’s finally starting to fade I’ve just fixed her up a humid hide but I’m unsure on what to put in it, she gets bathed almost every day when I’m able but she needs this in the enclosure for when I can’t...

    Shell rot?

Hi there I had my tortoise out earlier and was inspecting her and noticed what looked like signs of shell rot on her plastron? The top of the shell looks okay to me but is the bottom normally supposed to look like that? She hasn’t been eating as much the past few weeks which I chalked up to...

Is my tortoise preparing for hibernation?

That’s great my night time temps are already in the middle of that so could bump it up a bit. She’s 2 and a bit years old now so I don’t know how long she can last without eating normally especially if she still moves around a fair bit but she gets bathed regularly so fluids should be alright...

Is my tortoise preparing for hibernation?

Thanks for that wellington, since I posted she has been eating less and less, I’ve watched her outright refuse food and walk over it. She is still active though and walks out to be under the heat when she wakes up. I’m thinking I might raise night time temps slightly, it feels okay to me but I...

Is my tortoise preparing for hibernation?

So over the last few weeks I’ve noticed my 2 1/2 year old Horsefield tortoise slowing down a bit. She appears healthy still, weight is good, eyes and nose are clear, pooing less as she’s eating less but urates and urine looks good. She’s kept indoors as the weather in the uk now isn’t as...

    Ways of Presenting food

Has anyone tried mushing weeds and other tortoise foods into more of a pellet like consistency; mine really enjoys pellets when she gets them but struggles with other whole foods like garden weeds I pick for her, I’m slowly reducing pellets but there is still foods she won’t eat, would it affect...

    Weird behaviour

Okay I’ve bumped it up to 35-36, 38 felt very hot so I’m hoping 36 will be alright, hopefully encourage some more movement as her heat needs should be met

    Weird behaviour

Yes sorry the basking spot is 32, ambient temp is around what you stated there, there’s a cooler side but she seems to enjoy it around the basking spot, what’s concerning me is why she’s under there so much even though the room in general is warm and why she’s sleeping in the corner every night

    Weird behaviour

Thanks for that, yes she doesn’t seem to be enjoying the move too much although she seemed to enjoy exploring at first, her food is fed either on a slate or in an accessible tray so it’s not in the dirt, water is clean and available, food is wild weeds and some store bought and pellets, temp is...

    Weird behaviour

She’s a Horsefield, advised temp was 32 or around there so that’s where I’ve set it at

    Weird behaviour

So I’ve just made a new enclosure for my Tortoise, topsoil, plenty of decorations/hides, heat at 32 degrees C, UVB strip, water dish, since moving in I’ve noticed she spends a lot of time under the heat lamp and will dig into the corner of the enclosure and sleep there Problem is the ambient...

    Queen of the cave

Thanks for the kind comment, she’s a Horsefield and she’s around 2 years old (can’t be exact but it’s around there) I’ve been told the weird marks are minerals from water so I’m hoping they will go, I’m happy with the colour just wish the more transparent parts would fill in a little bit haha...

    Transparent tortoise shell

Can anyone explain why my Tortoises shell is like this? Other tortoises her age (2 years old) seem to have really thick coloured shells with no transparency, she eats a well varied diet (with dust), gets lots of sunlight every week and is bathed regularly, is this normal and will it fill out?
