My russian tortoise only eats brocolli!!!

Hello and welcome! Perhaps you’ll find this website useful for some ideas🙂it’s very important to get your tortoise used to a variety, they can be stubborn but keep offering different foods, leafy greens and weeds, no fruit. https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/

My russian tortoise only eats brocolli!!!

Hopefully you’ve found the responses on here helpful regarding the uv. I’d personally consider saving for the arcaida, it’s a good brand and comes with everything you need to mount it🙂

    Glass Tanks

Opening up to do daily husbandries is more than enough air exchange and no enclosure is air tight. I wouldn’t personally use this as an enclosure though. I’d encourage you to refer back to the responses on your thread on how to set up🙂

My russian tortoise only eats brocolli!!!

Hi sorry for the delay, does she bury herself a lot during the day in her enclosure? I’d try to aim to get her whilst she’s already out n about but if she’s buried during the time the uv peaks, you may have to unearth her lol Id save up for the indoor uv when you can because it can be so...

My russian tortoise only eats brocolli!!!

I can understand how you feel about the advice, because you’re right in that tortoises absolutely love to roam, which is why a large enough enclosure is so important. Tortoises don’t have reasoning skills, therefore they can’t understand why the area they are wandering doesn’t feel comfortable...

    Closed chamber lighting

Tom was referring to your indoor enclosure for the basking area😊 Obviously only let you guy out in the outdoor enclosure for a few hours whilst they’re still a baby for some natural uv. I don’t suppose we could get some more information on your indoor set up? We might be able to help is there’s...

    Bulk Buying in the UK

If you type in 70l orchid bark substrate into Google, some bulk listings should come up for you. I was initially throw seeing pine in the title, but after some more research I’ve found that it is safe for use here🙂

    sulcata baby

Hello! I’m going to include so information that hopefully answers your questions and helps give you an idea for enclosures🙂 Tortoise of any species should NEVER be housed in pairs under any circumstances, they’re incredibly territorial, behaviours that look cute to us really aren’t, following...

My russian tortoise only eats brocolli!!!

Thanks for the reply! I’m going to include some information below that you’ll hopefully find helpful😊 As adults they need a minimum of an 8x4 foot enclosure, roaming is vital to tortoise health, it aids digestion and strengthens their muscles. Don’t think they can get away with smaller if...

Hello and welcome! Try to follow Alex’s advice and get them separated into appropriate enclosures with correct lighting and substrate, best of luck😊

My russian tortoise only eats brocolli!!!

Hello and welcome! As wellington has said, you need to ween off the inappropriate foods and start introducing healthy foods, they can be stubborn but it’s necessary and remember variety is key! You want to aim for leafy greens and weeds with these guys, definitely no fruit. Perhaps you’ll find...

Russian tortoise burrowing all day during the day, runny nose, moving slower than usual. please help

Thank you for your reply! I can appreciate the position you are in as it’s not your tortoise. There are a few things that sound a little off with the set up(trust me easily done and this is a judgement free zone!) Im going to give you information on an appropriate indoor set up, this is going...

New African Sulcata 2 years old

We personally use a large serving slate for food because it’s great in naturally wearing the beak down, a terracotta might have a similar effect if you wish to use one to feed on too😊 Haha bless you, I used to be the same, funnily enough, because of the humidity and the lighting in there...

New African Sulcata 2 years old

Yep those are perfect for the ambient lighting😁 Did you manage to order a terracotta saucer? I can’t remember if you said, that’s all I can think to add outside of toms suggestions, plants, hides, slate and the water saucer, they’re usually pretty happy with that😊

    New b

Hello and welcome! 😊 Don’t suppose we could get a look at your set ups? Only thing I’ll say about those two red foots is no species should be housed in pairs, small groups are ok if you have acres of land for them to roam with the correct female to male ratio. Also just to make sure, you...

New African Sulcata 2 years old

Oh and for potted plants, wash the roots of the soil they came with, and plant in coir, I’d personally wait until new growth because you don’t know if there was fertiliser added, which plants can absorb

You can buy them but tbh it’d probably work out cheaper to make them by screwing some timber together, I’ll attach some examples of the different kinds, if I were you I’d make two of the longer type stand that you can see the strip light(uv) is mounted to(6th photo)it’ll mean you can adjust...
