    RT hatchling sleeping too much?

I read through this , and I'm starting to think that maybe he's just sleeping because he's a baby. I do plan on rearranging my enclosure, both for enrichment and because the feeding slate and moss get too hot/dry. I have both a uvb bulb and a zoomed heat bulb at 75 watts that raises the temp on...

    RT hatchling sleeping too much?

Hi everyone! I recently got a hatchling russian (a little over two months) and he sleeps most of the day. He'll walk around sometimes and will eat A LOT, but he mostly takes really long naps under the sphagnum moss and inn the substrate. I make sure to spray it down and keep the basking spot at...

    The wonderful Carol S!

After the passing of my first tortoise, Louie, I was devastated. I had no idea how sick he was, let alone that he would die so soon. So, when he passed, I realized that I really wanted a new tortoise, especially one that I knew was healthy. When I asked on this site, everyone told me to get into...

    Preventing pyramiding?

Yes, I have a spray bottle that I'll use to moisten the substrate everyday so there's a moist microclimate. if that isn't enough I could possibly use a humidifier.

    Preventing pyramiding?

I'll be housing Noodles in a premade house for about a year, after that I'm knocking the shelves out of an old bookcase and making that an enclosure.

    Preventing pyramiding?

Hello! As I have mentioned before, I'm getting a baby Russian very soon (august 4th). I'm really concerned about pyramiding and how to prevent it. I've ordered the lights so it won't get MBD, as well as some moss to create extra moist hides. Can anyone help me to prevent pyramiding? I'm so so...

Need advice for Russian Tortoise enclosure

Where did you get your tortoise? If you got it from a big pet store chain like PetSmart, you need to get it checked out. They catch their torts from the wild most of the time, which means it might need some treatments if it has a parasite or an infection. It'll be expensive, but it's worth it to...

Need advice for Russian Tortoise enclosure

Hey, Doug! How many rooms do you have in your apartment? Do you have a balcony? If you have a balcony, you could possibly build something out there. If not, you could easily order a book shelf on amazon and knock out the shelves. It won't be quite big enough, but it's much better than a 40...

    Rushed schedule?

Hello everyone! I'm getting a new tortoise from the amazing Carol S.! I was planning on school being out for a couple months longer than usual, but it looks like that won't happen. I'll have to do everything either very early in the morning or very late at night. Which one would be best? I...

    Feeding and vitamin schedule?

Hello everyone! I'm getting a baby Russian, and I want to make sure it gets all the vitamins and variety it needs. I'm getting it in around august, so weeds might not be that available. What foods and vitamins would you all recommend and when should I give them to the tort? Thanks! -Gracey

    Russian tortoise stubborn with water

yes, and as gross as it is, that is where they poo/pee. I learned this through a vet I visited a while ago, and I think more people should know so that they don't get worried :)

    Russian tortoise stubborn with water

If your tort isn't drinking the water, it's most likely absorbing it through its cloaca. When Louie was still here and I would soak him, he would only take like two or three gulps of water, but he still seemed hydrated. I always made sure that his tail wasn't blocked by waste and that it was...

How to make a cheap 8x8 foot outdoor enclosure

I'm asking for future reference, but I live in a place with mostly dirt and patches of wild grass (we can't really grow regular lawn grass). What would you recommend I do to compensate? Also, nights get cold out here. Is it still healthy to transfer before night?
