    Excited over new tortoise garden

That sounds awesome! I'm in school to be a teacher so this is like a dream haha. I'd make sure that the pen is dig and climb proof because I've read RT are great escape artists. You'll have to show us pictures when you start working on it!

    What's the best humidity gauge?

I know a lot of people use "accurite" digital hydrometers. They're pretty cheap and work well. Analog gauges don't really do much lol.

    This tortoise enclosure--advice?

I would be worried about her trying to climb the stairs and her falling in her back. I only have a box turtle but I feel like the risks are the same. As far as make shift hiding places- I would get a $1 dollar store bin and cut a door in the side. It's cheap and easy to clean.

Russian Tortoise Enclosure, Proper Size and Materials

I've never had an RT but I do know the stairs can be a falling/flipping hazard. Please remove it so the risk of her getting stuck on her back will be lessened. I just read the care sheet and it says minimum for a RT is 8' x 4' and with an RT bigger is always better because they are energetic.

    Won't gain weight?

So I've had a box turtle hatchling for about a month. While she eats and makes 'messes' everyday if not several times a day, her weight has stayed the exact same. I'm not sure how old she is but her plastron is less than 2" (I've never measured but I know she's small) and she weights around 25...

Found a baby turtle and need help!

I see that you are taking him outside which is great! Since his shell is soft make sure he gets plenty of outside basking time (like everyday) UVBs are great but there's nothing like real sun! Glad he is in your care and has a chance now. Edit: I didn't even see the date your post was made lol...

    Broken Shell Hatchling

It's like an hour long daily process haha but basically baby food soak, then clean water soak, then clean the wound every other day with diluted iodine, Neosporin every single day, completely clean out hospital tank, weight her and put her back.

Outside temp is affecting the inside!

I couldn't tell you how to make it warmer other than moving it. And honestly a 20 gallon is tiny... It doesn't take up that much space. Where are you planning on putting the zoo med thing? I would switch to eco earth. I ordered mine from dr foster and smith and it was ~$5 for 3 bricks which...

Do box turtles shed? Or shell rot?

That is super likely! My other post is about finding her with a crack in her shell (on the other side, kind of the same area). I can't believe it took me this long to notice (but I was initially focused on the bleeding part haha)

Do box turtles shed? Or shell rot?

So my EBT hatchling has a "loose scute" like the bottom corner is peeling? Half of me thinks it's normal because she is so little but the other half of me wants to worry. I took pictures tonight while she was soaking in watered down pea baby food (I switch between vegetables & peas have a...

    Help with shell?

I second that she was kept too dry. I would change out the sub because wood chips can dry up humidity. Try feeding her a little protein (like earth worms) box turtles are actually omnivorous and loveeee to eat insects. Also I've heard great things from moisturizing turtles shells with coconut...

Found a hurt eastern box turtle

She's a hatchling weighting 22 grams and less than 2" long. So no eggs because she's not even a few months old. She is currently indoors (40B tank) as it's not recommended to put hatchlings outdoors until they are bigger.
