    What Age What Place

My baby was about 2 inches and was riddled with health problems. She is badly scarred from an infection from her yoke sack, had shell rot, and was very under nourished (who can blame her?) I also recommend an older well known and well established little one with health and vet records if...

    Progress report

Well hello fellow Albertan, You'll find humidity to be a bit of a trouble in these parts. That's been my only real struggle for a year now. after good advise and help on here I've found local food to be readily available year round, fresh. Be advised that in local shops there has been an issue...

    Substrate

I have had very bad luck with the bricks of coco husk by Zoo-med. I stopped using them due to the rapid mite infestation, well under normal time frame for changing bedding. Cypress seems to mold or get "pokey bits" that worry me. (After three days in my pre-made bucket a mushroom grew so I...

    Too dry..?

The temp stays normal, but the humidity is fluctuating to where I feel uncomfortable so she must as well. Auto mister it is. : ) thanks.

    Too dry..?

Ok it's a very dry area here, I keep up misting Gams tank about 2 to three time a day and when I check it, it is at a good humidity. But I was brushing the cat and his dandruff was very bad. So I took a look at Gam and all seems fine, but I work for 10 hour a day and my husband works an opposite...

    Tort not eating :(

We just had a really bad cold snap (-37C Brrrr) and Gam started to act funny too. New bulbs went a long way. He eating behavior doesn't seem to change much with uv or lack of should she be going to the vet or a baby sitter for and over night, i just don't want her to lack it and never pressed...

    Mites. : (

The mites cleared up with one cleaning. they didn't seem to be biting. just were and irritation to Gam then anything else. I will be cooking all my subs from now on in. bought a clover water just in case it spreads to my snake. none on gams body. : ( what is recommended to put heron to keep...

    Mites. : (

I was given the advise to super soak and bake the coco if plan to use it again. talking to other repti owners this apparently happens a lot it's common to cocohusk, and other wood subs. : ( Found a spray used on a cotton ball and avoiding the eyes to wipe her down with..clove based. She looks ok...

    Mites. : (

Just did a habitat change... used cocohusk for humidity. now Gamera has mites. avoiding that from now on. Just in case anyone else uses it or has been told it's ok.. be careful. I feel bad for subjecting her to them. Time to clean clean clean. ....

Traumatized tort (from vet trip) not eating

When Gamera was at the vet a lot we ended up having to force feed her criticalcare for few days. don't recommended it for long and force feeding is a drastic measure as it's even harder on them. when she didn't want to eat she kept that beak closed and nothing would make her open it. I would...

    Soaking Question

: ) Little Gamera looks forward to her daily baths, even begs for them. If i don't offer her warm water she'll bath in her water dish and look sad because it's cooler then what she likes. Such cuties. Face first like they are snorkeling. (She also poops there the most so it makes clean up way...

    All about poop!

The first time I gave Gam the ZooMed pellets that happened. It's higher in fiber then mazuri I think. It was hard to imagine something that big coming out of someone that small! (Sidebar: Everyone should look up the theme for Gamera as every time I read my own siggy it gets stuck in my head and...

    All about poop!

Well put! I just had the random thought while Gam was making nice little gift in her water dish at an unusual hour of the night. (glad i was up to clean it right away) She's on average on ever day to day and a half, depending on what greens she has or if she picks her pellets. The more info for...

    Eye Issue--Revisited

It could have been a pre existing condition made worse by stress. I can't speak for torts as I have just started in my experience with them but I see that at a calculable rate with the reptiles i deal with regularly. Its not easily avoidable at that point, but creatures of habit seem to drop...

    All about poop!

XD this may seem like one of those questions... but on average, how often do your torts poop? (age included too please) I deal with a lot of reptiles of all sorts every day and it's always a happy thing to see dropping, more so with older animals as many don't eat every day. You can tell a lot...

    Eye Issue--Revisited

Gamera was given injections for a long time before she was fit enough for me to bring home and a lot of vet care after. (Fluid injections, Force feeding, Shell rot treatment) She avoided me at all costs. So I let her settle, handled only when I had to, and in a few months she was looking for me...

    Hermann's life expactancy

:/ I am 30, Gamera is a year or less, and she is already in my will. I plan to update as years go on. Made sure to get permission from my brother as I willed her to my niece as well as make sure she understands and agrees to the conditions. (I picked her above all because she is family, in 4H...

    Normal growth range?

Pleased to say we sell oxbow in the store I work at. : ) Glad to see there are people in Canada on here who know what I'm going through. The pellets I use are the ZooMed grassland and only gets eaten if they are on top of fresh greens. (Soaked to make them soft) New plants are starting to sprout...

    Normal growth range?

Great advice! Thanks everyone! Many many places here sell cactus pads. Also wondering if "cat grass" would be safe to grow in the enclose? (most often oat, wheat, or barley) It's hard to find anything I can easily grow indoors at a sustainable rate at local gardening shops.
