I am familiar with spring tails, I just didn't take this into consideration at first. The two main characteristics that confused me are the fact that they lived behind his neck, and the fact that they are large enough to see without any close inspection. If I were to keep my schedule of two...
Help please! I was giving my baby sulcata a soak and I noticed a small bug run from his shell to the crevice behind his head. I inspected this area and found 10-20 tiny bugs laying there! How do I help him with ought hurting his delicate head!
I was just going to get on and update the thread. Literal minutes after posting this he woak up, got a drink, ate the vitamin d3/calcium supplemented spring mix I gave him (he usually eats the un-sprinkled pile) and did a few laps of his enclosure! And I did take what you said into account and...
My baby sulcata has constant access to water bowls in his enclosure, and I have not seen him drink or soak from them in a long time. He drank normally when I first got him, and he stopped drinking when I went from soaking twice a week to twice daily. And his tank has always been well misted...
I think that's just uric acid to be completely honest, which from what I understand is the waste created from protein. I'm new though so if anyone else disagrees with what I said in this thread I would believe them
If anyone is on this thread at the moment I want to point out the fact that (like a lot of people on this forum) I unexpectedly got my little boy as a gift, and I have been trying my best to get him on track. That's why my questions might seem dumb sometimes.
I shouldn't have been surprised that the brand name light I got was bad for him. Every single well respected pet store brand has some shady business. You'll see well respected fish tank brands selling half gallon tanks. Or mammal brands selling 5x10" hamster cages ;_;
I feel even DUMBER...
I was originally misunderstanding. It is both eyes. He takes time opening his eyes and once he opened one at a time.. so I thought it was one eye. I ordered a new UVB bulb and I'm planning on giving him a higher D3/calcium supplement dosage until it gets here. I have it dark for the night at...
I got rid of the coil bulb yes. I was planning on keeping his entire enclosure dark for a couple days. His substrate is rabbit pellets and sand. Just kidding he's actually using coconut choir with small patches of aspen mulch in the places he likes to rest. I'm happy to hear the word...
I made a mistake. I went to get a UVB for my little sulcata boy and I *assumed* that if it was advertised towards animals, it wouldn't literally cause blindness. I got a coil UVB and used it for around a 2 weeks. My tortoise has recently began closing his eyes when he is awake/walking around...
I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions when I fixed it with the bath. I just realized the real problem. I was using a coil UVB. I don't know what to do I feel so stupid. I am about to he's out to get a new one. Do you have any experience with light induced eye problems, and tips? I'm terrified :(
