    Creating a first enclosure

I gave in and had someone build me an open top box that I'm going to put a partial plexiglass lid over to help keep heat in. Its 8x3 and just for the cold months.

He is. And he has 2 basking spots. One mvb, and one plain basking spot. He's also got a humid hide that's got a heating mat under it.

    Heating Solutions

Thanks! He is indeed a tort. This is the first time anyone's mentioned either of these items. I've built a pen for him, and I'm tweaking it as I go along to get it right. The grow lights were a big step in the right direction. He now stays out much longer than before because it's sunny in my...

    Heating Solutions

Has anyone used repti heat cables? It says they can be wound around branches or used under the habitat. I bought a big reflective t5 grow light which is helping, but I'm looking for more options.

    C&c enclosure

I'm also looking into long t5 grow lights. I saw where someone mentioned these help with full spectrum light and heat, and he changes one of the bulbs out for uvb.

    C&c enclosure

I know it's not as wide as it should be, but unfortunately, 4ft wide would take up my entire livingroom. Until it warms up, I don't have that space. Also, he was living in a 20 gallon tank with his previous owner so it's a huge upgrade. Not discounting your concern, I'm just making the best...

    C&c enclosure

Hi! I decided to build a c&c enclosure for my russian, Nicolai. C&C's are typically built for guinea pigs, but I needed the enclosure to fit my small space, and be adaptable. C&C stands for cube and choroplast (corrugated plastic). It uses those wire cube shelves that you can design any which...

    Basic Diet Question

Thanks for the response. I've discovered that I have lots of good plants in my yard that will be good for him when spring comes along. Right now he's getting a variety of store bought greens. He's really into the curly endive.

    Bamboo in enclosure?

As it turns out, real bamboo is edible. Lucky bamboo is toxic. I'm glad to know the difference.

    Basic Diet Question

At some point, I realized tortoise table was a website, and I love it. I just want to make sure the foods on there are safe for all species.

    Bamboo in enclosure?

I understand they aren't to eat it, but could I use it as something to walk on...like a ramp? It's not lucky bamboo, it's real, wild growing, tall bamboo. I'm trying to make his habitat interesting for him with different textures, and natural things. I know bamboo isn't in their environment...

    Creating a first enclosure

Also I cancelled the order on the rabbit hutch. I'm doing a c&c type table enclosure. It's popular with guinea pig enthusiasts.

    Creating a first enclosure

Thanks, we are planning on lowering the house and therefore the ramps. Also I want to put side rails on them. In the summer, I can expand it when it's out in my yard. This will be his indoor setup. I'll take a pic when it's finished being setup and remodeled.

    Creating a first enclosure

I actually was going to build a box around it so he'd have flat wandering room as well, but I ended up just shelling out money for this thing, and we are going to adapt it to make it more suitable.

    Rabbit hutch....

I purchased this one. We are going to lower the house down in the middle.

    Rabbit hutch....

The ugly cage seems more practical since it's significantly larger. My tortoise is a russian so he stays small, but I know they need room to roam.
