    Unsponsored review: Lightyourreptiles.com

Hey everyone, I just wanted to write a quick note about how amazing my experience with light your reptiles was (it’s in Maine, USA). We found out they had a sale on Arcadia lights and ended up buying an integrated set of UV, Basking, grow light, and heat lamp. It was so great we ordered a second...

    Keep his tail tucked

Hey y’all, I’m looking for some advice or clarification, whatever people can provide. Here’s the situation, we have a mature (~20 yr old) red-foot tortoise who, due to some mineral deficiency in his early days before we got him, has a larger than normal concave portion on his underside (he’s...

    Tortoise on lap

If you're sitting on the ground in his enclosure my redfoot will climb into your lap and then just stare at you. Sometimes if I'm outside of the enclosure he'll start trying to climb out and if I pick him up and put him in my lap he just falls asleep.

    Getting another tortoise

What we had been thinking about was getting a female/male and then cutting a hole in a board to the shape of her shell that sections off the enclosure to make sure she can get away from him in case he's a bully. Generally, when our two torts have met or when he has met other animals (cats/dogs)...

    Getting another tortoise

Hello! So my partner and I received our beloved red-foot from his dad (who got him from a friend who breeds Indian-star who got it from some random person who knew he liked tortoises and couldn't take care of him). Basically the story goes that our tort actually had a female "mate" until about...

    Tortoise Enrichment

So I know this is an old thread but I have a few things to say. First, I think to say that tortoises don’t know the difference between an invader and a ball is a bit ridiculous; and I don’t know about you guys but my RF and Russian both, absolutely play. I live in Boston so during the winter we...

    Red Foot Shell Coloration Change

So last August my Red Foot got into some rhododendron flowers and after throwing up and spending some time frustrating a vet by not responding to attempts to sedate him so they could give home charcoal he ended up being fine. Shortly there after we started noticing that the yellow parts of of...

    Cleaning a Tortoise's Shell

My partner and I adopted a red-footed tortoise from a less than ideal condition last August (now March). He had been living with two old dogs who would sometimes pee and poop on the floor and he roamed the same indoor space they did so, when we got him, he had the smell of dog urine on his...

    Alocasia/elephant ear-safe?

So my education is in plants and I will say this - the elephant's ear is probably fine as long as he can't eat it. What I have seen people do is plant it and then put a bit of fencing around the base so they can't get to it and then trim any leaves that hang down where the torts could get at it...

    New England Tortoise Dad

Don't worry! That I know - they are kept separate with different conditions; I read a lot of threads on here before we adopted each one!

    New England Tortoise Dad

Hello! I'm Jacob and, with my better half, I am the proud parent of two rescue tortoises. We have an adult Red Foot named the Tortoise (pronounced with a French accent) and a Lil Russian named Sheldon. I'm always up to talk about people's best practices for keeping Tortoises happy year round...

    Looking for Female, Adult Redfoot.

Hello, my partner and I adopted/rescued a male redfoot last August who, after a round of antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection is doing great and has been given a clean bill of health. He is, additionally, EXTREMELY social (will try and crawl up a persons legs when they sit on the couch...
