Thank you for your comments.
Ru’s enclosure is a 4x5 bookcase on its back. She has two heat lamps and t cover her area most of the time which has increased her humidity. The temperature when both lamps are on ranges around 85-90. I do struggle with keeping consistent temps. Since my original...
On occasion I can hear my redfoot breathing and almost ”talking”. On the other hand there is a lot of time I hear nothing. She has seemed healthy as far as everything else goes. I have taken her in to the vet in the past for the same thing and they have automatically given her antibiotics but...
Last year at this time Rufina had a lump on her cheek. I took her to the vet and he had me give her shots of antibiotics. The spot seemed to go away but now it’s back and larger looking. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Hopefully Rufina’s pictures came through. Could someone tell me if they think she has shell rot.
Also, at what age is a tortoise considered mature enough to sex and breed?
Thank everyone for all the help I have gotten in the past!
I do not have an enclosed structure for her at the moment, in fact she is in a very large shower stall with substrate and everything. I’ve tried to keep her temperature around 85° and her humidity I struggle to get up above 75°. I will be moving her into her new place within the next week or so...
My 2 1/2 year old red foot has a very watery eye. I have read that this could be a humidity problem, which I work on constantly, but I am concerned that it could be something else. Should I take her to the vet?
She sure looks better. I have been very concerned about her and you as I know how hard it is to love something you don’t know how to help. Please keep us informed of how she is doing.
Here I am again. After reading things that others have written in the forum I have begun to wonder about Rufina’s bowel movements. When I look at her enclosure I don’t see any sign of anything hap-penning. Even when I soak her I don’t often see anything. I give her a variety of foods to eat...
Thank you to everyone for your comments and suggestions. I feel like I have tried so hard to provide a good home for Rufina and yet I feel like I fall short so much of the time. I love her and I will keep trying.
The other day I took my red foot outside and put her in her enclosure. An hour later I checked on her and she was on her back in the heat. When I picked her up she had a clear slimy substance all over her head and front legs. I tried cleaning her off...of course there was little cooperation on...
I know this is a much discussed topic but I just can’t seem to get my red foot’s enclosure regulated. Right now I use a humidifier and a portable heater plus a heating pad. I try to cover her enclosure (a large shower stall) with plastic sheeting but then I can’t use the heater which I’m sure...
(Moderator note: Because Rufina asked this question on another person's thread about the health of their tortoise, it wasn't seen until over 6 months later. We apologize to Rufina and hope Mark's reply answers your question.)
I know this isn’t the right place for this but being pretty...
Thank you, and Dhellie and Tucker. Both of your kids are beautiful, but their heads look so much smoother than Ru’s. I want the best for Ru but I will try to stop worrying so much. I’m in my 60’s which I think qualifies me as a fuss-budget. I am going to try the coconut oil right now, and a bath...
I have had a ruby headed, red footed tortoise for almost a year. Her name is Rufina (it was Rufus until I realized she was a female). I love her very much and I am concerned about her health. First I have really struggled with humidity but through this site I have read a few ideas I might be...
