I'm not much of a "greens-eater"; what I buy goes to Derby. Derby is a baby. As you can imagine, his food spoils way before he would come close to eating it all. But, what ways have 'you' found to keeps those types of fresh foods nice and "fresh", for more than a day. (Lol)
Haha!!!! I had some gnats in Derby's enclosure, so I attempted to fix it... I placed a coffee mug with apple cider vinegar, and something to hold a "wadded-up" ball of fly-tape. I THOUGHT it was "Derby-Proof". Lol
He's all good, though. It all came off. Warm water, and a soft scrub.
Any suggestions on removing fly-tape adhesive off the shell of a very bad tortoise? Lol. I'm going to try just warm water and a soft toothbrush. If it doesn't work, any suggestions?
It came in a small container. I just put in the mug until I found out what it was. Now that I know, I can throw it in, and watch it grow! Lol (Until it's eaten. :-))

It's a plastic tub. I made a canopy to cover it so I could maintain temps and humidity. The tub is on wheels, and slides out from underneath the canopy.
The odd thing is, when I got home from work, everything was back to normal. (I happened to see the hot temp spike when I stopped home...
I have a 60w incandescent basking bulb low on the far right (100 degree basking spot). I have a CHE on the far left, situated high in the enclosure; 20" above substrate. (UV lighting is in the middle.) I have a thermostat connected to the CHE, at 82 degrees. But, sometimes it gets to an ambient...
I couldn't agree more with you. I chose a breeder who is not only a member here, but also a well-reviewed breeder...
It would be easy to be "that guy", and mention his name, and possibly harm his reputation, but I'm an adult. His reviews are great. His responses have always been within 24...
Actually, I did in fact contact the breeder immediately. And, I opted to raise a "pair" after doing research. I'm not one to normally suggest more than one critter unless there is documented proof of communal cohabitation. Territorial aggression/dominance is not something easily avoided in tight...
I recently purchased 2 P. Babcocki hatchlings. Upon arrival, they were COLD. VERY COLD. However, they seemed to be "ok" after I got them warmed-up. (These are the first torts I've ever had; I didn't have any experience with which I could compare. They moved a little, ate a little, etc... Seemed...
I think I'm going to opt for the T8 ReptiSun 10.0 UVB, and mount it to the "ceiling" in the canopy. From what I've read, it seems like it should do the job. My enclosure is 36", but I'm not sure if I can actually get a fixture for a 36" bulb to fit, so I may go with the 24" light and mount it...
I appreciate the info! I wasn't aware that torts were sensitive to the red lighting (many herps can't see red light). That's getting changed as soon as I get home! I guess I'll modify my canopy to accommodate a fluorescent tube fixture, too. what height would you recommend? I know they lose...
Currently, I have a CFL (I can't remember the exact brand/model) for UV in the middle, a 100w CHE on one end w/ 100 degree basking spot, and a red heat bulb (on a dimmer switch) controlling the other end at 80 degrees. It's a 36x24 concrete mixing tub, with an 18" tall canopy/chamber on top to...
Over the years, I've learned that most things sold and marketed by reptile supply companies can be purchased MUCH cheaper if you know where to shop. But, I don't want to take a chance when it comes to the UV lighting. I know that Mercury Vapor bulbs have been around for quite some time, and you...
I thought I'd share this in case anyone else might like the idea... I made a canopy to go over the tort tub, for temps and humidity. But, I made it so the tub pulls out like a drawer for easier access. The canopy stays in place, so the lights and heaters aren't disturbed. Plus, I think it'll...
