Great! Thank you for your insight into this. I get and appreciate that they are a small business and you have to wait for these cages. It's just unnerving when I paid over $400 to someone and I don't get a response. I also hate to bother them with the routine checking in, making sure I'm going...
I'm wondering if anyone has had any problems with Animal Plastics? I ordered a cage from them in June. I understand they have a back log of orders and it takes a long time, but I'm starting to get nervous and my tortoise desperately needs a bigger enclosure. They initially told me it would be...
My red foot tortoise has been pooping in his enclosure every other day for a week or two. I'm still waiting for a larger Animal Plastics enclosure that I ordered, so his current enclosure is not big enough. The poop gets all over everything in there. I've been having to take everything out and...
Thanks for your input. I'll have to look into the possibility of outdoor housing. It wouldn't be completely out of the question. I am from down south, and was thinking as I researched care for red foots that they shouldn't really be living this far north.
I could use some advice please. Here's my situation. A good friend of mine passed away last month, and I took in his 5 year old, 10" long red foot tortoise named Sonny. The current terrarium enclosure is way too small, so my wife and I have been looking into providing more space. Ideally he...
Weird question. Is it better to have the water bowl in the basking area or the cooler side? Was thinking my red foot would prefer to sit in the water if it's under a warm light. He doesn't immediately seem interested in it. Is that a bad idea?
I'm thinking about having a similar 3 section corner enclosure made for my red footed tortoise. Have you figured out the best lighting setup for this layout?
Hmmmm, my wife will not be pleased. The enclosure would have to double as a piece of furniture. Maybe I could build a human bed/tortoise enclosure. Is that a bad idea? Haha. I was told he is 5 years old, which I assume is adult.
I'm reading that a guideline to go by is 8 shell lengths by 4 shell lengths. Is that length front to back? If so, my tortoise is 10" and I'd need a 80" x 40" space. That'll take some surveying!
Thank you for all the advice! This all makes sense. Would something like this be acceptable? It's 36″ x 24″, 12″ high. https://zoomed.com/tortoise-house/
Hello all! I recently inherited a lovely red-footed tortoise named Sonny after a friend of mine passed away. His wife had no idea how to take care of it, so I've had to do lots of research. There is a lot of conflicting information out there. I worry that I'm not caring for it correctly. I have...
