My 3yr old 40lb sulcata has a slight stagger step in both his back legs. This might just be how he walks and I am just noticing, but wanted to run it past y’all just in case it means something I am not aware of.
I have video but can’t figure out how to post it…..
My tort has what is best described as a nose whistle. No snot or drainage of any kind, seems like normal self. He is inside right now because of a major ice storm so I might just have become hyper aware of his breathing. Do your torts get nose whistles? Can you hear them inhale?
It’s been cool this week and my guy is refusing to eat. His house is heated to about 80 and it’s about 50 outside. I even put his food inside his house because I thought he just didn’t want to come out but he still didn’t eat. Is he just being mad because it’s cold?
My sulcata has a winter box with heater that performs well as far as keeping him warm. My question is this, in the winter do you feed your tortoise in his house so he stays warm or do you feed outside and have him eat outside? I live in Texas so mild temps but does get below freezing at least...
I have a 4x4 dirt floor, well insulated night box for my 20lb sulcata. I have a heat panel on the side wall but an experiencing mixed results. I would like to install a mini oil filled heater on my inkbird thermostat. I am very concerned about fire hazards. How do you mount or install the heater...

I have a fully insulated 4x3x3 house with no floor only dirt. I live in Austin Texas so it’s pretty warm but we do get a few below freezing days. I am thinking of a RHP on the wall. Do you think that would be enough? I will probably put some sort of heat bulb also. I am scared of fires of course.
My guy 6” 1.5 lbs has an enclosed chamber inside but spends day time outside. I am afraid having him in the hot dry air will lead to pyramiding. How do I keep him humid outside? He has a soaking dish, shade, and dirt to dig in but prefers to sit in the sun.
Do sulcata outgrown the risks of...
I seem to have a lot of moderate feeds in my yard. Mostly chickweed, cleavers, sorrels, horseherb, along with grasses. How much moderation do I need to do if his consumption of these moderate weeds? He is 1lb.
Second question. Is there a time I no longer need to worry about pyramiding? Like...
my yard has a lot of horseherb plants mixed with the grasses and weeds. The tortoise table says to feed moderately. My little guy is 113 grams, how much is moderate for his size?
I have a large Xmas tree bin I am setting up for a hatchling sulcata. I have coco coir bricks and reptibark mixed and in the bottom. It is about 3 inches deep. I tried setting a ceramic heater on one of the lid holes and it started to melt the plastic. I think it was a 65watt. I think I put to...
i am thinking of getting this to make my tortoise table a closed chamber for baby sulcata. Anyone have any experience with these? I also have a 55 gallon aquarium I could put a lid on. Would that be better?
