Tortoise enclosure at Liberty Science Center too small overall? And too bright at night?

Hi everyone, Last night I went to Liberty Science Center's After Dark event. It's held every first and third Thursday of the month from 6PM to 10PM. My coworkers and I were having a blast when we stumbled on the tortoise exhibit. I took some photos. It appears to be way too small for the...

    Introducing Rocks

Around 2 months ago I placed some big rocks in the middle of my enclosure. The original intention was to provide a way for my Cherryheads nails to trim down naturally since they seemed to be getting rather long. The rocks have worked excellent. Putting a CHE well above the rocks is a great way...

Someone on reddit saying that owning a tortoise supports the illegal pet trade. Thoughts?

Thought I had a handle on this topic but honestly the commenter got me digging a bit. Based on my research I still dont see anything to suggest that certain tortoise purchases are illegal or support the illegal pet trade. Was hoping maybe some members/breeders here could shed some light on some...

Basically brand new Solarmeter I purchased off amazon.com, I'm pretty happy with my setup at the moment and no longer need the Solarmeter. I was originally going to get a desert tortoise but ended up going with a Cherryhead tortoise. High levels of UVB are less important with these guys, so I...

    Rough / Jagged Gular Growth

My Cherryhead is about 10 months old now and weighs about 120 grams. I noticed that his gular seems to be growing in rather roughly and was wondering if it should be smooth or if this is normal. The gular is part of the plastron and is located right below the head. Attached are some pictures.

    Plastron Fungal Infection? *Picture*

Im a new owner of a Cherryhead Tortoise I've had the tortoise for three weeks now. The substrate was somewhat moist, definitely not wet... although in his hide he burrowed down to damp, wet substrate. During his daily soak I noticed that he had a white spot on his plastron. I was able to wipe...

    CherryHead Early Signs of Pyramiding?

Hello everyone, I have a CherryHead tortoise that is about 3.5 inches long and alittle over 4 months old. I was wondering if someone could help me identify whether or not he's showing early signs of pyramiding. My main concern is there appears to be a slight notch between the scutes. Is this...

    Cherryhead UVB Question

Hello everyone, I'm a new owner of a 3inch Cherryhead. I've got an enclosure that is 6 feet by 2 feet by 12 inches tall. I have two incandescent 100W incandescent bulbs lighting and heating during the day. I have two CHEs for night. This keeps the enclosure at 79 - 83 Degrees in all areas both...
