    Tortoises During Heatwaves

Oli has finally decided to wake up, thank God. And he is now roaming around in his enclosure, allowing me to calm down at last. This confirms that the heat was the issue, as the sun has set and temperature has dropped a little: it is now 31 degrees C (87.8 degrees F), and there's a bit of air...

    Tortoises During Heatwaves

Many thanks your help, Ed. Appreciate it. Yes, more or less. I spray Oli and his enclosure with cool water each and every day. Furthermore, I've been giving him a soak TWICE a day since the heatwave. Oli's enclosure is inside my flat, where there is NO sun at all.

    Tortoises During Heatwaves

Fair enough, but Oli has never been so inactive in Summer, no matter how hot it gets.

    Tortoises During Heatwaves

Hi everyone. Jordan is being effected by a heatwave like never before since decades. temperature reaches 43 degrees C in Amman during the day. (That's 109.4 degrees F). Boiling hot weather. Moreover, the Govt has declared a state of emergency due to weather conditions. I'd like to ask: if...

    !!!

So sorry to hear this. Several people suggested that I get a cat, as tortoises do not really give and take with us human beings. I refused. A cat would and could harm Oli any minute. I would not be able to leave home!

    Are you "even"?

God forbid Yvonne, but at the same time a very bright answer. Well-said.

    Why does he hate me

Please post pics of your tortoise and his enclosure. Don't worry: Tortoises are reptiles - not mammals. Therefore, they do not give and take with human beings like dogs and cats do. I tried to train my tortoise to do certain things, many years ago. But....no way. I came to learn that tortoises...

i need to identify my turtle specie

    I think he/she is a Greek tortoise.
  16. Gillian M

    Name that Greek!

You have to know the date of birth of a tortoise to know its age.

Do you cool your soaks in the summer?

I have noticed that my Greek tort likes the water relatively warm, no matter how hot it is outside. The Kingdom is effected by a heatwave. Temperature reached 38 degrees C (100.4 degrees F). I soak Oli each and every day. Now, when the water temperature cools down, he begins to struggle...

    Too bad. I would too.

    Tortoise great escape

This does make me feel guilty, very guilty at times. Therefore, I take Oli out for "walks" in the hot sun every now and then, which he seems to really enjoys.
