Hi, it's been awhile since I've been on the forums, but I still have my little guys! I realize the need to redo some of my enclosures, as my little Leopard, Lilo, hasn't grown one single bit in the last year. I didn't realize how much time had flown untiL I just found my old notebook that was...
I think it is time to move my beloved Sully, Pepper. I knew she wouldn't be a lifetime keeper (and still don't understand why these would be legally sold in my State, considering our cold winters), but I'm glad I have had her as long as I had! I found her at a local petstore when she was 6" in...
Here's my short story.... I got a new Russian female! YAY!
Here's my long story.... several years ago when I first got into tortoises, I ended up acquiring (through a few different places), seven large females, the smallest of which was 6 inches.
Due to some housing issues (my house...
"Roxy" is the store mascot at a local petstore in town. Often times on slow days they'll let her out of her enclosure to wander the huge store. She is about 42 lbs now.
I snapped this photo of her walking down the fish aisle! I know it's not easy to see her, but I thought it was a...
Willow had never been fed Mazuri before, so I gave her some to try! She's still trying to figure it out! LOL (Ignore the sounds of my dogs walking around in the background!)http://youtu.be/XiXNaMMIlZs
I went to a large petstore that has taken in several rescued Sulcatas. While their care isn't there quite what it should be, it certainly appears better than where they must've been rescued from (or some of them, at least).
In order to offset the cost of food, people can buy a small bag of...
Brought home this little one today. I am told she's a female Cherryhead (I assume temp sexed, so won't hold this as truth yet...) and 3 months old. I'm told she had a rocky start but is doing much better now.
I just brought her home today and naturally she's just hiding in the corner of her...
Here are my two Sulcatas, Pepper, who is now 10 lbs and 12", and Harvey, who is 5". I am hoping to always be able to house and accomodate Pepper but know that realistically I won't be able to house two adult Sullies, so Harvey is not a "lifer" (he was a gift to me). Will do my best for him as...
hit the 10 lb mark, and 12 inches! Yay!
Anyways, Wanted to get a more accurate gender on her. She wasn't cooperating with pics very well, and had made a nice mud puddle with her water bowl this morning, so forgive the muddy bum! LOL! I've been calling her a "she" so can we make it official...
I've had Harvey since he was a new hatchling. He's now about 5.25". I know that's small so I won't get a 100% answer at this time, but do you have guestimates on Harvey's potential gender? He holds his tail over to the side all the time, so I wasn't able to get a good photo of that.
I posted pics of my Hermann's pair in April of 2012, when Mr Bean was around 3.5" and Dave was just a hair bigger. At the time, the guestimates were that Mr Bean was possibly female, and Dave male. Thought it'd be interesting to repost them along with updated pics. Mr Bean is now 5" and Dave...
I did some "then and now" comparison pics of some of my Tortoises! Thought I'd share!
First is my Hermann's, Mr. Bean, who I've had since 2008
Next is Pepper, my female Sulcata (I think) who I got in Aug of 2011 when she was 6". She's now 11.5".
And then my littler Sulcata...
This is Stavi and I've had him since he was a new hatchling. I just noticed today these weird lines", almost like veins, on the yellow parts of his scutes. These lines aren't raised at all, they appear to be part of the scute, or inside. I'm baffled! Anyone seen anything like this? Someone...
My childrens' high school has had two box turtles in the "Pet Care" classroom for several years. They looked awful when my first son went, and only look worse now (according to my teens who are familiar with how a tortoise should be cared for, as we have tortoises at home).
My daughter...
