We have tons of shade in the yard. The main reason I bought the house. 6 large trees. Sprinkler system runs every night. I will get some substrate. That may make it easier to maintain moisture. Thanks for the help @wellington

Heaters kick on at 80. Just realized they are not kicking on. Temp inside has not dropped below 84. Humidity dropped to 74 yesterday before I had to refill when I got him out. It is getting 97 degrees in there during the day. Should I raise that up? He usually only comes out for 3-4 hours in the...

He is outside year round. That is his night box. Daytime temps have been 100-105. Don't seem to have issues with humidity. There is moisture on the inside of the flaps on the doorway. What type of enclosure do you recommend?

No substrate it is really sealed up. I have to fill the humidifier every 3 days. I usually only soak him once a week but he loves being sprayed with the hose. He gets that daily when he comes out. I will for sure soak him tomorrow.

Yes I have read many of Tom's posts. Since that picture I have added a humidifier and radiant panel for heat all controlled by ink bird controllers.Night box is super insulated for winter(R32 insulation on all 6 sides all sealed up except the door which has freezer flaps). Also have a wireless...

I have had him since October 2019. Picture of the enclosure attached. 90 degrees and 80% humidity is what I keep it at. Dryer climate here but hasn't dropped below 75 degrees for weeks.

My almost 3 year old Sulcata male has not been active the last 6 days. He doesn't come out of his night box unless we bring him out. Night box is temp and humidity controlled. Normally he comes out a few hours a day and grazes and walks around. He will eat some pellets when we get him out but...

Sulcata doesn't want anything to do with his house

Yes I thought about that ahead of time. I used 2x4 with pocket hole screws in it on the sides and top. I can expand the width to 30" and hight to 30" just by unscrewing them and trimming the inside and outside sheets.

Sulcata doesn't want anything to do with his house

Just got the clear freezer strip kit in today. I installed 3 of the strips and then removed 2. I set the blocks up and he walked in on the second approach. I figured I'd give him a day or 2 with one strip and add a second on the other side for a while until he gets used to that. I very much...

Sulcata doesn't want anything to do with his house

From what I understand substrate is a big no no with the kane mat. When he is in there he goes straight for the kane mat. I guess I have room for some but would worry constantly about a fire hazard.

Sulcata doesn't want anything to do with his house

I was using thick black rubber. I felt like it would give better temperature barrier but it also seems like it has become a tortoise barrier as well. I removed it yesterday. Thanks I'm pretty proud of the house.

Sulcata doesn't want anything to do with his house

I have black rubber not the clear. Didn't think it would be much different but a good idea. I'll look into some gas struts. The lid is probably 100lbs. I'll look into the training for sure.

Sulcata doesn't want anything to do with his house

I recently built my 2 year old sulcata a night box. Heavy duty built like a house but insulated with R-30 insulation all the way around. I put a kane heat mat and an oil filled heater in there. It's perfect temperature wise stays 85 all the time even when it is 100 out. The problem is he won't...

    Need a some advice

54 was the lowest this morning. Temperature in the enclosure is 85 on the cool side. He has come out after an hour back inside. Was very scared of any noise or movement. He has retreated to a log hide.

    Need a some advice

36 hours ago I set my 8 month old sulcata out for the afternoon and couldn't find it when it was time to go in. I finally found him after 2 nights outside. He is in his shell and not coming out at all. He does pull in tightly if I touch his legs. I have soaked him and placed him in his tank...
