Thank you for all this information! I do my best to keep the coco coir damp as to avoid dust, but the area under/around the heat lamp still dries out, and of course that's where he spends most of his time. Perhaps I'll give the fine grade orchid bark a try!

Has anybody ever attached something to their tortoise's shell to prevent getting stuck on their back? Apollo is a tiny little thing, not even 2" long yet. He is in a 2x4 ft enclosure so he has lots of space, and lots of little things around to climb over. Substrate is moist and packed down...

I do have coconut substrate mixed in to help with the moisture as well! Definitely will research this more though!
