I personally believe that to an extant, they would. I think this because I've noticed that sometimes when I'm just doing random stuff I'll catch my tortoise staring at me and I know its not for food because they always have a large pile of food in his enclosure and their water bowl is always...
Some of you might remember me as the tortoise mom of Franky the greek, but I am now a tortoise mom of not one, but two tortoise babies!
Introducing Maximus the sulcata tortoise!
And here's some pictures of Franky
I have got Franky in August of 2019, approximately born on july 10, 2019, and...
I dont believe he has MBD. I do however see growth lines, so to prevent MBD just make sure you continue to keep the humidity up, feed the proper diet, and make sure he gets plenty of uvb light and you should be fine.
Maybe try giving your russian a very gentle pet on the head. I do that with my greek and he just sits there and closes his eyes which I think means he likes it, plus, he would be able to see you coming so no surprises!
So, I reread your initial post and I understand that your tortoise stopped eating and vet diagnosed him with kidney and pancreas issues. I'm thinking that he might not be eating because of the meds you give him every day. I only say this because one thing I've always been told since I was little...

you can put plastic wrap or a shower curtain on top of your enclosure to keep humidity in. just make sure you dont block the lighting to because it can not only be a fire hazard, but also blocs the uvb from getting to your tortoise.
For the dryness, all I can recommend is soaking them more often than you are. Second, you have to get rid of the red light and maybe replace it with a ceramic heat emitter.
Hi and welcome to the forum! First things first, pellets are a bad bedding choice for any tortoise species. I suggest replacing it with coco coir or cypress mulch which should only run you a few dollars. Next, because your baby is new, sometimes they wont eat for a day or two because they are in...
This is so weird. Just the other day my cousin found a turtle that size in his garage! And the door was closed and everything. I didnt tell him this, but I was starting to think that maybe someone put the turtle there. Like a turtle Santa claus. A TURTLE CLAUS!!!???
I'm not sure what kind of predators you have in Spain, but because of his size, I would recommend building an outdoor enclosure that has some kind of wire top that will let the sun in, but keep predators out. That is, if you dont already have one. The recommended wire top is chicken wire...
