That's exactly what I did last night and today. :) It seems to be helping. The qtip helps me get into places since she's almost always closed up.

Would the turtles in this thread benefit from iodine or antifungals mentioned here?

Is it possible to change the name of this thread? My focus now is getting rehab advice. Would these two benefit from iodine or any of the anti-fungal suggestions in the rescue tortoise thread?

I do not think so. She is very shy so it's hard to tell if there are any partial toes left.

The shell on this one is such a mess. A lot of it has flaked off or in the process of coming off. Will he eventually get the ornate pattern back?

All the extra crustiness, does it just look like stuck shed from bad husbandry or does it look fungal? When I got them home and into the bath this evening, they smelled so bad. I was able to trim the little feisty one. I also massaged them with a little coconut oil.

The vet just looked at them and said he thinks their condition is primarily from bad husbandry and MBD associated with it. They are not in great condition for him to trim them or do anything further at this time so I am to take them home, keep them quarantined from my other tortoises and see...

I finally got them! I had all but given up since the guy was not responding. Here's an update on their condition. ? New Thread

I made separate posts for each one. The vet is about an hour and a half from home so I have to take them there before I'll get home to soak them. If any trained eyes recognize anything, I can make sure I address it with the vet this afternoon. Thanks so much!

This is the littler, much more active, dominant one. Is it a 3 toed? I think I saw more than 3 toes but I'm not sure that any others have that distinctive round shell?

What is this one? In the initial post, someone thought it might be a gulf coast but I'm thinking maybe a desert? It does not have much of a tail so I'm not sure if you can tell but is it male or female?

The guy who had these "tortoises" for sale finally met up with me. I knew they were in bad shape but the big one is in way worse shape than I thought. ? He had them for 10 years and got them from a guy who “rescued” them that no longer he’d wanted them and was told to feed them dog food and...

I went looking for it and this is all I've been able to find at local nurseries, too. :( I grabbed 2 today and was coming to ask about it. Same bag was $10 here.

He contacted me and said he thought I'd be the best home for them! Now just need him to get back to me with a time I can pick them up. I'll be sure to post pics when I get them.

I wish I could. :( Maybe the other people will pass when they find out they are box turtles and not tortoises? They are about a 2.5 hour drive from me but I would have been happy to go get them and give them a better life. :(
