substrate is organic topsoil. Thanks for letting me know not to use an mvb; I won't purchase one. Do you think if I replace the chicken wire with plexiglass that will make it closed chambered and be good?
The dimensions are 4x2 which I know isn't huge but I think is good as I have a 3 month old hermanns. I keep hearing open top is good, so I have like semi open top. Also, for UV, what should i do come winter? I have a uv strip bulb but it's only on one level of the enclosure. I think it'd be cool...
Lots of people are telling me there are problems with it and I'm not sure about it all. A big problem I think comes with the second level and some people are saying that bulb is too close to the floor and stuff like that. It's controlled on a thermostat so it doesn't get too hot, so hopefully...
Hi Carol,
How are you? I hope all is well. I heard you breed Russian Tortoises and I'm potentially interested in one. Do you have any available? How old are they? How much do they cost?
Thanks
Matthew
So I heart CHEs are hood at night for the winter, but can they just he used in general with a thermostat for Russians? The regular spot bulbs don't work and from what i hear 'reptile basking bulbs' don't last long.
I already got a UVB strip so I don't need an all in one.
Thanks
I think I have water and feeding dishes. I would have to check though. I still have to check about the hides. I might make something. If not, I'll buy something. Thank you for the other suggestions, though. They were really helpful.
Basically I'm planning to get a Russian tort or hermanns and I've been trying to look for deals. There is this bundle I found on ebay. Not everything in it is useful, but I think quite a bit of it is. However, I'd like a second opinion if possible.

So I was contacting someone today and they told me that oil in pine and cheap woods are bad for tortoises and other reptiles. Is this true? And if so, what kind of wood should be used to built a tortoise table?
Thanks in advance
I updated my list of stuff based on the recommendations and some more research. Please let me know if any other changes can or should be made. I still have about a week before I start building the enclosure and buying the stuff and I think I can improve this list.
Thanks in advance!
Right now I'm hoping for a well-started hatchling or a juvenile. I understand the main difference being humidity and enclosure size, right? As of now I'm planning for a 2x4, which I know is small but I'm also planning for 2 floors so I hope that makes up for it. I just don't really have room for...
