    Minimum temp for going outside?

My sulcata is 16" long and 21lbs. What is the minimum temperature he can be outside? I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, so most of the year it is too cold.

    Minimum temperature for Sulcata outdoors?

Oh! I'm dumb. Totally wasn't clear. You're right, I do have two sullies in my care. My "little guy" is barely six inches... the "big guy" is about 20lbs and 16" long.

    Minimum temperature for Sulcata outdoors?

Our summer so far has been rainy and cold, too cold for our little sulcata to have spent much time outside. What should the temps be for the big guy at the minimum? What's the minimum temp his dog house should be at during the day? He goes back indoors at night or if it is windy or completely...

    Rocks in outdoor pen...safe?

Do people ever include small rocks in their outdoor enclosures for sulcatas? My paranoia is not completely baseless; we took in a sick tegu whose owners couldn't afford vet care, and he ended up being sick due to a large rock in his bowels. It resulted in 3 surgeries at over $10 000 and years of...

    Rocks in outdoor pen...safe?

I am cleaning up an area in my yard where the dogs won't be able to access, to turn into a bigger tort pen. The area used to have pea gravel for a dog run, and although it has been removed, there is still quite a bit under the grass. I've been scraping and raking it for an hour but I feel like...

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

I wish it did! I mean...two weeks ago, we still had snow, and it's not even warm enough to not cover my tomato plants at night...it got down to 7 degrees celsius last night. These guys are up for adoption but only to a warmer climate...probably the best climate here would be Vancouver island...

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

I know!! Was not impressed! So, another quick question (thanks for all of your help so far!)...when is he able to go into an open table style enclosure?

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

Sounds good! My temp gun met an untimely dog related end but I have a new one on order.

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

Alrighty, that's easy enough with our oil heater! I'll switch it tonight. Yes, he has a large outdoor pen, but I'm far north in Canada so for 8 months of the year it is too cold for him to go outside, and it is too cold during much of the day still these days... what is the lowest temp he can...

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

I hadn't put any of his furnishings in when I took these photos. He has a humid hide on the cool end which is where he seems to prefer to sleep. He always seeks out the cool end at night. His ambient temp is 80 during the day and goes down to 74 at night, but the CHE is always on at 100 in his...

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

Okay here are a few pics... first one is Goomba as of yesterday... The non-tort ones are of hhis enclosure after yesterdays experimental CC attempt... I put a sheeet of coroplast on top and cut a hole for the CHE to go beneath so it wouldn't melt the coroplast. A wire panel is on top to hook...

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

I spent a few hours reading on the subject on this forum and saw aquariums with lamps down inside the enclosure, with tops to hold in the heat and humidity... I know that because he is older he doesn't need quite as extreme of a CC so I thought I could improve his aquarium while he's in it. He...

    Closed Chamber for Young Sulcata?

I rescued a young Sulcata late 2011 who was kept in bad conditions prior to coming to me... spruce wood shavings, iceburg lettuce, cat food, and no soaks. His pyramiding was obvious when I got him and I quickly put him in a high humidity enclosure. Despite my research it's only now that I'm...

Best UVB and heat lights for a whole Sulcata room?

I recently lined a cement room with pond liner and turned it into an enclosure for our growing rescued Sulcata. His space is 10'x6'. We're in Edmonton Alberta so although he goes outside on days that the weather is good, he is stuck indoors for much of the year. Keeping that in mind, what is the...

    Stanfield heat mats in Canada?

Where can I buy the pig heat mats in Canada?

    Turning room into enclosure.

I am thinking rubber stall mats now? They are an inch thick, easy to clean ,and would insulate him from the cold cement.

    Turning room into enclosure.

Is plywood easy to clean? It already has a cement floor...is that okay for his feet?

    Turning room into enclosure.

Hi everyone, Koopa the Sulcata has outgrown his enclosure (of course) and I am turning a room in our heated garage into a new enclosure for the winter. It is 7'x7'. It has a cement floor that is painted with stuff made especially for garage floors. I am mostly curious about what to use for...

    Substrate Issues

We ended up getting the Coco Coir from Canadian Tire and mixing it with sterilized play sand. We'll see how that does, but it seems a lot less dusty already and it's holding moisture really well! :D

I still think they'd eat it, but it's worth a try! It smells good. Maybe I'm not giving them enough credit. :D
