    Diamondback terrapin help!

My diamondbacks have been in fresh water their whole lives with very minimal issues. My oldest is now 8 or 9 years old. I do have a bit more salinity in my water in my home from my well. All of my fish and other water turtles do well in it though. Good luck to you. DBT's are wonderful pets.

box turtle with MBD really worried. Not getting better :(

Yea. I will get one. I misspoke when I said we have been working with her for a year or so... Yikes. How times passes. I looked it up and its been almost 2 1/2 years. I guess I worry the most because she was progressing and is now refusing to eat at all. Her bottom shell is so much bigger than...

box turtle with MBD really worried. Not getting better :(

Hi all, About 6 years ago I bought this little Gulf coast box turtle for a coworker and gave her great thorough instructions on her care. The coworker left our office and I never heard from her again. One day she calls me and says that her turtle is sick. Well, I got her back about a year...

looking for a diamondback terrapin hatchling

Hi all, I have had several DBT's over the years. I recently got a baby(March) while in Vegas and flew him back with me and set him up in my office during the week and take him home to get real sun every weekend in his pond. My coworker and her family have fallen in love with him, and are very...

New rescue came in. I can't beleive some people.

I wondered about her being a gulf coast cross too... not sure? Actually, in person she isn't skinny at all. She is heavy and solid. Regardless though, she will definitely get on a better diet. I think once I get her situated and her health in good shape, I have a loving family who is...

New rescue came in. I can't beleive some people.

Last night I got a call from a local pet store that often calls me when they get a sick turtle in or one who someone is "done" with. I went to go get this girl and the owner had her in a small tank with dry cat kibble piled in the corner. They just kept putting dry kibble on the top and there...

My first EVER hatched Easterns last night!! Yippee!

This is the hatchling's daddy... Rob. I saved him from a horrible home years ago when he was the size of a quarter. He is a special member of our turtle family..... unless he is chasing my females around being a hopeless perv... like now.... when I separate him for the others. hahahaha just...

    3 toe eye color change

Hahahaha.. Mine have an outdoor pen and and a tortoise house they sty in. When it gets really cold they ll come in. I fear that they can't stay warm enough through the yuckiest parts of winter. They get as much rel sun as I can get them. It makes for healthy turtles. ;) A few of my males tend...

    3 toe eye color change

Hi again Pamela, Traditionally in box turtles males have red/orange eyes and girls have brown eyes, just exactly what everyone else said. That being said, having Easterns, three toes, gulf coasts and Ornates, I will say that three toed turtles can be trickier than the others in that many times...

My first EVER hatched Easterns last night!! Yippee!

I live in Oregon. Thanks! I will probably get scolded for admitting that I picked the eggs up. :/ But, this is what I did... If you mark the top of the egg, and lift it ever so carefully and set it on the light from your cell phone(if you have the flashlight app), if you hold really still...

My first EVER hatched Easterns last night!! Yippee!

I did. I just used the light on my phone in a dark room. I checked at first for veins about 10-14 days in, and then once half way through for a growing dark spot inside. Sometimes you could see an arm or leg move. ;) So exciting! The third egg still hasn't hatched. It is still alive, when I...

    Malaclemys terrapin macrospilota - hatching

Sounds good. Just let me know. I would actually love a concentric. I am also looking for another hatchling for a friend. She is not particular. A northern would be fine. She just wants to start from a baby. She has watched my new baby Northern grow and has fallen in love with him... ;) But I...

My first EVER hatched Easterns last night!! Yippee!

I had them at 81 or 82, although our AC went out mid summer and on some really scorching days my house got very warm and I saw them get up to 84/85. That was a tad bit scary. So considering that, I am guessing probably girls? The third egg hasn't hatched yet..... Sent from my DROID3 using...

My first EVER hatched Easterns last night!! Yippee!

Thanks! I am in love! :D The smaller one, is that what they call an extra scute? When the keel line is zig-zagging? The dad has that off set line of color on his back too. Is that a genetic thing? Or a sign of the eggs getting too warm in the incubator? Does anyone know at what point in the...

My first EVER hatched Easterns last night!! Yippee!

Hey all, Yesterday I was shocked to see two of my three Eastern eggs hatch. They were only at 50 days, so I thought I had another 10 days.... but no... They arrived while I was home so that was great!! These are my first hatchlings that I have incubated. I have had many hatchlings, but any from...

    A day in the sun.....FINALLY!

Yep! I had separated them for quite awhile due to what others had suggested. But, they were always at the fence next to each other,so I let them be together some. They like each other. =)
