I'm looking to spy on my tortoises at night so I'll be installing a camera inside their shed (Yi camera).
Since the shed is well sealed and insulated I doubt my cam will be able to capture much in the total pitch darkness.
The camera does have "night vision" so I'm sure that even a faint...
Before using this, inevitably one of the tortoises would always plop itself down on top of the food tray, or even worse the dish would become a toilet.
My only concern was that they wouldn't be able to reach all the food in the cage but pushing it to the sides like you see in the pictures they...
Alright, let's get right to it! I have a few questions, but first some background info:
My Aldabras have been staying in an outdoor enclosure during the entire Florida summer. Temps during this time never dip under mid 70s at night and they do have plenty of places to hide from the sun during...
I'm interested in doing a bit of spying on my Aldabra tortoises so I'm in the market for a trail camera. I specifically want to see how often, if at all, my tortoises are visiting the pond I made for them.
I have never purchased a trail camera in me life so I'd really appreciate some feedback...
So I picked the new site for my new "state of the art" tortoise shed, and after removing the ground cover that was on there now I'm wondering what to seed in this spot that the tortoises will like to chomp on.
Preferably something that either stays low (like clover) or that I can mow down to...
Was messing around with the 3D software to design a new shed for the tortoises, and came up with this chart using a 6' person for reference.
Of course there are variations, but none the less this gives a good idea I thought.
This is the source for my information...
Morning y'all. Seeking help from the experts here. I noticed that the shells from my newest 3 tortoises are spotted all over with some sort brown/reddish blemishes. I cleaned them up with a soft toothbrush using some soap to make sure it wasn't just soil but the stains remained.
It's worth...
As some of you might know I'm the proud owner of 3 Aldabras. Here is the thing, I might just be the unluckiest person on this side of the hemisphere. I keep having nightmares that they'll all turn out to be the same sex. And by the time they are old enough to be properly sexed, it'll be way out...
Good day good folk!
For context I have three young Aldabras in South Florida. They average 6.5" in length and 2lbs.
They are locked in a completely sealed box style enclosure during night time and then moved to a bigger outdoor pen during the daytime after they've had their 30 min soak and...
Hi guys! So I'd like to spy on my tortoises while they are in their night box and was wondering what you guys would recommend.
The enclosure is pretty well insulated so the camera would be working in a pitch black environment (if that's not possible I could look into a small LED?)
Another...
Looked through Amazon for them and only find results for self regulating "heat cables". I'm wondering if there is such thing as a self regulating lamp. I'd need one that can maintain 75° with temps in an outdoor enclosure that fluctuates from 35° to 69° during winter time (South Florida)
So far...
OK so here are some pics of my Aldabra hatchlings which I've owned for about a month. All three seem to be doing just fine and I have no health concerns to report at the moment.
What I'd like to know is what, if anything, we are able to discern by examining the shells of our growing turtoises...
Put together a new grazing enclosure for my Aldabra turtoise. (6'x6') I see most built from wood but I feel more comfortable working with metal.
Now all that's left is to line bottom of the sides with a 6" strip of rubber and place the cage in a good location where it's partially under some of...
Good day everyone. Recently a friend contacted me about adopting some red footed tortoises. Knowing I have plenty of space and a soft spot for rescued animals he was sure I wouldn't refuse. And I didn't.
I got 8 tortoises total. Both males and females (including two cherry heads!) and they are...
