Ah that makes sense- thank you. Unfortunately I am finished with school from today till beginning of September (that's where I built his table and got materials haha) but he spends a lot of time outside at the moment so hopefully he can hang on for a little and then I'll sort out some upgrades...
It was my understanding that the size of the table should relate to size of tortoise.. 8x4 is recommended for bigger species than Colin, so surely he doesn't need quite that much space?
That being said I'll see what I can do and make it bigger. Of course bigger is better whenever possible, but...
I appreciate the feedback- thank you. I think I'll pick up a terracotta dish at the weekend if I can..
Colin is 15 years old, only 5 inches. He's a Tunisian spur thigh :) enclosure is 122cm x 60 cm.. approx 4ft x 2 ft
Colin's new table nearly finished! Lining it with pond liner (not the whole thing, the bottom and a few inches up the sides). We've varnished it and just getting ready for the next coat! Very exciting. It's 122cmX60cm, making it about 4ft by 2ft. Colin is pretty small (5inch maybe) so hoping...
In the final stages of making Colin's new indoor enclosure! Wanted to make one at the start of the year but things happened and we didn't get to, so I'm glad to have it nearly done now.
Just wondering if it's safe to pain the inside of the table, and if so what paint I should use? If no paint...
This is brilliant - thanks Tom. It's good to know exactly which caresheet to look at.. even better to see I've got quite a lot of it right.. definitely see some changes that need making though. Will get on that ASAP.
Thank you for helping me see where I'm going wrong. There's lots of different...
Possibly something I should already know here.. but Colin is a spur thighed tort (Tunisian)- does the come under the Mediterranean tortoise category? Wikipedia says spur thighs do, but last time I checked Tunisia was in Africa 😅
Also how different is an African tortoise diet to a...
Hi Angie, I'm in the mid west! Colin is doing fine, I gave him some cucumber and a little bit of tomato (he was very pleased) and soaked him a couple of times- once today and once yesterday. He's not shown any signs of illness, thankfully. I was very worried! I'll keep up with squishy food for a...
Hi all,
I had Colin outside this evening. He's always supervised as there are plants and things around it for him. He managed to get a bite out of what I believe is a dead 'red Robin' leaf. On tortoise table these are listed as toxic. The leaf was dead and he only got one bite, but he's small...
I suspect you're right! The trees are in the neighbours garden but come over the fence.. I'll attach a photo but I'm afraid I don't know what type they are.

There's a few of these in the garden at the moment..
had Colin outside for 15 minutes today on the patio as it's warmed up a bit today. I always watch him when he was outside and I noticed he tried to eat one of these- I took it off him but I think he may have gotten a small bit still. Will...
