    Local substrates- ecoscraps?

I ended up just buying the Eco Earth coconut coir stuff. More expensive but I know its safe. Everything seems to have fertilizer or some additive in it!

    Local substrates- ecoscraps?

Hi, hubby finally made my table for my cherries! Need about 3 cu ft to fill it. Cant find just dirt. Have been using coco coir, but expensive for large amount. Saw Ecoscraps- listed as coir, friut/veggie compost? Heard of this??

    My baby died!!!!

Under the light is flat, nothing to trip or climb on. I dont know that she was tipped but its the only thing I can come up with. She was not out yet when I left for work, at lunch time she was on her back so it only could have been 4ish hours under the light. The next day she was also on her...

    My baby died!!!!

Allegraf- There is a tiny jade plant in with them, they seem to trample it more than eat it. The only other new foods this month are opuntia- they dont really like it, and Mazuri- which they love!!

    My baby died!!!!

I am going to call about cremation tomorrow. I used the 'clay paws' kit to make a shell impression, turned out very nice I'm glad this forum is available , even my husband doesn't understand why I'm so upset.

    My baby died!!!!

Thanks everyone! I did take x rays, but not real certain on interpretation. It looks like her left lung collapsed or some pneumonia. But can't be certain it isn't post mortem changes. I wish I would've done xrays last week. And what does one do with a deceased hatchling? I dont really want to...

    My baby died!!!!

It was 2 weeks ago that she was flipped twice, once under the light and once in the moist hide. She was never quite right after that. She had always been very active, ate well. Consistently gaining weight until about 2 weeks ago. The foamy thing happened during her soak, she tucked her head in...

    My baby died!!!!

I dont know what happened to my girl, she went very quickly. I posted last week that I thought she might have respiratory infection, but she didnt have eye/nasal discharge. Just an incident of foaming after being in tub. I'm worried about my other 4, but they all seem fine and are either...

    Nictating Membrane Doesn't Move

One of my baby cherries has that too, covers almost half of both eyes. I thought it was because she was sick (actually being bullied) but I think it was like that before. I checked a poop sample- dont know from which tort and no parasites. I have not heard of that connection either. Will be...

    Help! Respiratory infection????

Interesting, I hadn't thought of her being bullied. She is one of my most social torts. I haven't seen bullying but I guess I may be seeing the end result. She definitely wasn't drinking, head was tucked in rather than neck stretched and leaning down. Haven't seen any more foam around her...

    Help! Respiratory infection????

I have noticed some things with one of my cheryhead hatchlings. She is about 6 months old and 71g today. Two weeks ago she was 85g!! I had been weighing the torts (5 cherries) every 2-3 days when I soak them, and she had been steadily gaining. Had company and didnt soak or weigh so often. :(...

    Crab fail

Crabs bury to destress or molt. If molting, can be up to a month before coming out. And crabs like company- you'll need a few more :-)

    Waikiki Zoo Tortoise Exhibit

I was there around 2006, I remember the aldabras and galapagos. I dont recall seeing others, but that doesnt mean they werent there. My hubby likes to zoom by enclosures, whereas I want to stop and gawk.

    Cherries, crabs and conventions

Its 48x12, by next month should have my new table built- 48x24, with a second story if hubby is up for it. Torts are all under 4" between 60g and 120g. Crabs are small

    Cherries, crabs and conventions

I think they have plenty of space. All torts can fit in the moist hide, or can bury in moist substrate under plant cover and the drier side has 3 hides, and open space in the middle. I just had horrible thoughts about the crabs terrorizing my cherries while they were trying to sleep! They must...
