I use reptibark and after a month or two there are soo many knats. I’ve frozen and boiled it but they still come back. Is there a better substrate to use?
I’m using a normal incandescent flood bulb. Maybe my humidity isn’t as high as the hygrometer is reading. I will try to increase it more. Thank you so much for the help!!
I am using a T5 not an MVB. Humidity has always been in the 60-70% range. Before recently upgrading his enclosure he was in a glass tank with an acrylic top. It was semi closed but still had a few holes for the lights.
My Hermann’s tort is 16 months and I’m wondering if his shell is normal or if this is pyramiding. It’s not completely smooth and some parts are raised but I wasn’t sure if it will even out as he’s fully grown. I keep humidity levels around 60-70% and soak almost everyday.
I have a 15 month old Hermann’s and until yesterday had a CHE on 24/7. The nighttime temps never dropped below 71F. We just upgraded his enclosure and since he is no longer a hatchling I thought he would be okay without nighttime heat now. I just looked, and the nighttime temp dropped to 63 and...
Thank you! That is what he does and he is very active. I just got concerned because a saw a post saying 4inches for a 15 month was too large and mine is even larger and younger.
Here is my post on what I found to work. I have a glass tank but I think the same could be made for your tortoise table as well. If you want the specific seller I bought from let me know.

I found an amazing seller on Etsy that offered custom cut plexiglass. Previously I had been using very thin plexiglass from Lowe’s that I attempted to cut myself and it looked terrible. The new top is very thick and although it’s not airtight it does great keeping in heat and humidity. The top...
Basking area is usually 95-100 depending on when I mist since it drops the temp for just a bit.
He does bask in the morning but also that’s where he eats too. The rest of the day he wonders around all over the enclosure.
Hello, I am wondering if 70 is too cold for nighttime temp in the cool side of the enclosure for a hatchling Hermanns?
Daytime temps are good and nighttime temp on warm side stays in high 70s.
Sometimes he sleeps on the warm side but sometimes burrows in the cold side. I’m worried he’s getting...
I have a CHE for nighttime heat. Today I noticed he burrowed closer to the CHE and not under his hide. I can try moving the hide closer to the CHE maybe that will help.
Yes I can check the temp of his shell tomorrow morning. He is acting fine otherwise. I’m just used to him feeling warm when I hold him so I was a little worried.
Is it normal for my Hermann’s hatchling to feel cold in the mornings? He sleeps under his hide burrowed in the substrate all night so in the mornings when I get him out for his soak he feels cold. (Ambient temp at night is mid 70s. As he is wondering around the enclosure all day he feels warm. I...
