Thank you! It is a very large space; several hundred square feet. 4 females to 2 males and adding tonks would make it 5 females, so sounds like a good ratio! Definitely better than what she has now. I want to get her there asap! Thank you for this input it is helpful in solidifying the plan.
No worries. Thanks for responding!!!
I found someone in Florida. Unfortunately he has several other redfoots so he will have seven in the same enclosure. It is an outdoor enclosure and it is quite big!!! I have to accept this. It is a much better home than what she has here in Vermont!!! He...
Maggie, I’m reconsidering shipping. We have a newborn in the house now which is time consuming, and I want tonks in a place where she’ll get all the care and best environment possible.
Vermont to Oregon seems so far to send her though… curious if anyone has any insight on this? Will she be...
This is good information. I will continue to explore local options but maybe this is something I need to be more open about. Freaks me out so much cause I drove her in a car with me a couple times on a 6/7 hour drive and it seemed sooo traumatic for her (and for me!!), I just can’t imagine her...
This is what I thought based on what I've learned here.
I have someone interested in adopting her who seems to have a really nice set up and is knowledgeable, but already has a redfoot and they would be homed together. She told me she did a lot of research and that redfoots are social and this...
Thanks for the advice. I am being really thoughtful about asking questions and I definitely won't just send her anywhere. The only reason we're re-homing her is to get her into a better space, and believe me, she is well cared-for here... we just don't have enough space for her anymore..
I...
Hi all,
I know there’ve been quite a few posts on here about this but no res consensus on best management. Weather is getting warmer near me so I let Tonks wander outside a bit and she wandered into some pokey bushes and now has a little cut on her nose. A few posts say to just leave it and...
Hi all!
I’ve learned so much through this forum and I’m so so thankful! After having Tonks for about a year and a half, we’ve thought about what we’ve been able to provide for her and what we feel we can provide going forward. We love her so much and have really cared for her as best as we...
I understand that it takes more information to make a thorough diagnosis but sometimes I’m just hoping for a relatively quick answer. Does her beak look like it’s something I should be concerned about or is it normal for tortoise’s beak to look like it’s peeling around it?
Thanks so much for responding. I’m glad it’s not obvious to you cause that hopefully means there’s nothing to worry about. I took another picture.
All around her mouth her beak looks like it’s dried out and peeling. You can see it pretty well from the side in the middle pic above of the side...
Hello! Happy new year to you all! I am so thankful for this forum!
Tonks’s beak looks like it’s dry? Or peeling? Looking for some input on if this is normal or something I should be concerned about.
She is a red foot tortoise.
I did my best with the close-ups. Hope they are sufficient.
Thank you!
Hi all,
I am worried that Tonks hasn’t really pooped in a week and a half, since June 11. She never poops in her enclosure anyway, but hasn’t been pooping at all during her soaks (which is typically when she normally poops) or when she walks around outside of her enclosure.
The backstory is...
I’ve been trying to take them away from her but it seems like she’s really a light eater these days and my sense was better that she eats SOMETHING than nothing.
I will take them away though and hopefully she’ll be forced to eat the fresh veggies I give her 🙄
I think you’re right about the egg...
