    Humidity vs Bacteria/Fungus

I'll update on the healing progress with pictures tomorrow or once there's a significant change. But yeah I believe he's about 1.5 years old. He's 10.5 cm, so slightly less than 4 inches. I wasn't gonna adopt any new tortoises but this guy... He's really special. He's got an amazing, outgoing...

    Humidity vs Bacteria/Fungus

Oh God, Tom I hope it's not Austwickia. It better not be. I've been reading about it too hence my paranoia. I guess now the only possibility is that he was infected before I got him, which is slightly over a month ago. He's now in a separate enclosure all by himself. Really hope it's nothing...

    Humidity vs Bacteria/Fungus

I had a Sulcata up to a week ago. But he was locally bred, really healthy and I had him for 6 months before I let him go. They were never in contact too so I don't think there was any transmission, if anything.

    Humidity vs Bacteria/Fungus

I haven't gotten them cultured. But I've just been informed of another vet that could do that. Either way, for now I'll monitor his recovery. I've got some medication to be applied with a Qtip daily. I'll try it for a week and see if there's any improvements. God, I hope this isn't something...

    Humidity vs Bacteria/Fungus

Hey Mark, @Tom, @Sarah2020 thank you for your responses. And yes, I have read and researched about the good of a closed chamber setup and still believe it to be the proper way to raise these tortoises. I have attached the enclosure pictures for your reference. You can see the 24-hour...

    Humidity vs Bacteria/Fungus

Hi everyone, I just returned from the vet due to a fungus infection growing on my 4 inch radiated tortoise. While I was there I was given a pep talk about the proper tortoise husbandry based on the vet's experience as she herself kept some for over 10 years. She was completely against me...

Captive Maintenance of the Radiated Tortoise

Would anyone mind to find mistakes on my closed chamber setup? The bottom one is for baby radiateds and the top baby aldabras. It's a 1.5 m x 0.6 m x 0.6 m enclosure. Lighting is an adjustable-height UVB Reptisun T5 HO 10.0, thermostat-connected IR ceramic heaters x2, an LED tube for ambient...

    ALDABRA TORTOISE BREEDER

Hi ALDABRAMAN, thought I'd ask for your opinion on your thread since there's no official guide to raising a baby aldabra. I have attached a picture of my closed enclosure, which is 120cm x 60cm for my 3" baby aldabra. My question for you is what is the proper humidity and temperature levels...

The Best Way To Raise A Sulcata, Leopard, Or Star Tortoise

Hi Mark, Thank you for the pictures. Look at that cheeky Sulcata you have. Hahaha. I've never raised star tortoises but these are amazingly smooth. The ones I come across are usually pretty pyramided, especially the Indian Stars. Now I've got new life goals. But yes, I need to rework on...

The Best Way To Raise A Sulcata, Leopard, Or Star Tortoise

Hi again Tom, Thank you very much for your advice! I will be sure to checklist each point on my new enclosure. Do you mind showing some recent pictures of your enclosure and perhaps some of your Sulcatas? I'm curious to see the end result of your tortoise husbandry. Such a pity I didn't come...

The Best Way To Raise A Sulcata, Leopard, Or Star Tortoise

    2. At what temperature should we be concerned about such possibility? I read on your previous post that night temps of 80 F + high humidity is fine. Hence, that would be my minimum setting. 4. Alright, sounds good. Hopefully the material I have is as promoted. 5. How do you set up the...

The Best Way To Raise A Sulcata, Leopard, Or Star Tortoise

Hi again Tom, Thank you for your reply and advice! 1. OK noted on the substrate care. I will be changing my substrate today. 2. My apologies, but perhaps my concern still stands about the respirstory effects of high humidity and < 80F during the night for the type of tortoises that...

The Best Way To Raise A Sulcata, Leopard, Or Star Tortoise

Hi Tom, Thank you for the eye opening read, which also meant that I'd have to redo several things with my closed chambers. I do have several questions for you, and thank you again for your time. 1. Substrate care. How often do you change the substrate? Or what steps do you usually take to...
