    Hey look

My granddad in Italy, had a Hermann tortoise. She was around 60 when she died... my grandfather went into the enclosed orchard she had free run of, and saw her eating a snail. There was plenty of food and water for her, she wasn't wanting anything, but she was definitely munching quite happily...

    Best advice you ever received?

I would definitely have quoted the above, but I have two (more) I live by: The first is applicable to virtually any and every situation I can think of... "If it feels good, do it. When in doubt - don't." and the second is particularly good for growing and developing teenage/adolescent...

    Swollen neck

Jeesh, you never mentioned she'd ask for a facial as well! Boy does she need anti-wrinkle cream!

    Swollen neck

My Hermann does that too, and also can't escape for the same reason... My Spur-thigh on the other hand, positively basks in her custom-made spa... I almost think she expects a massage and mani/pedicure afterwards!

    Swollen neck

This from the Tortoise Trust Website: "Swelling, flesh has a puffy appearance. Edema (see above). Possible causes: If arises suddenly, could be related to renal or pulmonary disease. If long-term without other symptoms, may indicate obesity and over-feeding." Nowhere, anywhere, can I find...

ID Tortoise species from a painting

More's the point, apart from mixing species, are they Male or female? I dunno... this spells trouble, whatever the case! Can we send Noah an email about it? I think he should know....

    Tortoise Flower Toppers

I would definitely moisten it. My tortoises definitely prefer moist food to any dried leaves they end up with.

Dare I leave hatches open .

As long as you're happy they'll be fed properly, I don't see a problem; I have 2 tortoises in separate enclosures, but they're both covered.... Not sure I'd be happy leaving them unsecured and exposed, if I'm completely honest.... I don't have predators either .

    Insurance For Older Tortoises's

All the advice I have received from both insurers and a Tortoise club I belong to, is to set aside a small sum every month in an easy-access savings/bank account. Far better than trying to find insurers.

    4 Red Ear Sliders

Yeah, I think we need to drop the subject and focus on the OP's problem with her sliders, which isn't down to any neglect at all....

    4 Red Ear Sliders

I can't see the post you're referring to either, so perhaps they deleted it... I think you needn't worry about offending, or being offended. Forget it, let it go.... Focus on the main issue here, which it the situation with your sliders. your pond set-up looks amazing, by the way...

    4 Red Ear Sliders

It's her 'signature'. It's on every comment she posts. It's not aimed at you, it's a general observation, usually aimed at some members who have either wilfully or ignorantly caused their animals problems through irresponsible care. Don't take it personally, she's not talking about you.

Well we’re not pregnant after all.

Well why didn'cha say that in the first place?! If I'd known that, I wouldn't have gone all super PETA on you! 🤣🤣🤣

    We're pregnant

There's no need to swear. And I don't consider myself 'wrong'. An animal in the wild, is one thing. A captive animal is quite another. If they're captive bred, there's absolutely no logical reason to feed live prey. If they're captive bred it's already an 'unnatural' condition, so I believe the...

1.5 year old red foot wheezing

In my humble and uneducated opinion - I'd ALWAYS get a new and unusual behaviour trait checked, particularly if it seems allied to possible issues. Tortoises take a long time to manifest problems, by which time, the problem MIGHT be advanced. Too risky. Take him to the vet.
