I’ve been overwintering my marginated tortoise since I got him in April 2020, however I think I’ve not adapted his indoor enclosure enough.
Can anyone run through the changes I need to make to temp and UV over the winter months?
I’m in the UK and he’s in his indoor glass door enclosure 24/7...
Should this be around 75 degrees?
I have a UV light on in the day around 90 degrees and a (sorry not sure what it’s called) heat lamp with no light on during the evening.
I think we have it too cold overnight as I have a tortoise that’s sleeping a lot.
Thank you. We've definitely seen an increase in the willy promotion activity in the last couple of months (nothing before then!)
So I have left it out for a couple of days before I put it back in. Gave him baths in between. Still the end of it sticking out. I honestly don't think he can get it...
Thank you for helping.
He can't put it back in himself. When we help him put it back in, he then does a wee and then it's out again - and I think it's because his tail gets caught up under his shell.
I have to help it back in, first I have to move the tail out from under the shell and then...
We’ve had an issue recently with my 3 year old marginated tortoise and a prolapse penis, which we seem to sporadically solve (by using a cotton bud to gently push it back in) but it keeps on happening and I think it’s his tail.
Two photos below show it as it should be and then a minute later...
Been about 2 weeks. Today I removed all the substrate, so it’s not getting stuck on it. I’m also upping the baths to 2-3 times a day for the next 7 days (was doing 2x week prior to now)
He’s still pooping and peeing fine and eating fine. Just worried he’s in pain!
Hi All
It seems my 3 year old Marginated tortoise once flashed a bit too hard and now has a penis prolapse and needs to see a Vet. Any recommendations for any in the Northamptonshire or Midlands area? I have one recommendation for Craig @ Chine House in Loughborough but ideally looking for one...
