Greetings from funkycow, jkingler's other half.
Yesterday, we removed and replaced Deedle's coir, since he was overdue.
Tonight we got home after the usual tort bedtime, and our baby Deeds was already burrowed - but I decided that the enclosure looked a bit parched and thought hey, why...

En. Tine's! Day. Ev'. Ry. Bo. Dy!!!
Note: After completing his cute little speech, we helped him to get that bit of leaf off of his face. ;)
Did it just sound cool? Did your toirtoise just look like a Shelly or Sheldon? :P
Or is there some deeper inspiration and meaning behind the names you've all chosen to give to your tortoises?
Tell me yours and I'll tell you mine. :D

I don't have one (yet), but I am in the market for one, and thought that this thread could be a fun venue to express all the little things there are to love about these pretty little torts!
Note: Yes, I ripped off the Russian thread. But since there is a back and forth re: which species is...
I only have one so far, but it makes me laugh. Hoping to see lots of fun stuff from you all. :D
Here's mine:

Lol.
Sometimes I wonder why I go onto CL, since I can't home any of these guys at the moment and it just makes me feel bad, but maybe someone else can help these big critters out.
Sulcatas (and they all look good, poor guys):

Could it be used to enrich the soil in my backyard? I was considering...
They are just a different color phase of Russians, right? No other differences, from what I understand, but I could be entirely wrong.
I generally don't find myself drawn to the looks of Russians, but these look so cool to me! And the blacker they are, the better, since the lighter colored...
Any personal experience with either of these?

Does anyone have one? And any idea what they would go for? Probably too rich for my blood, but a boy...
I have a preference for both the very light and the very dark colored torts, especially the ones who are several standard deviations away from what would be the typical appearance for a given breed. Should I reconsider my predilection?
I am wondering if having abnormally light or dark...
Are active "bullies," in general, more healthy, less healthy, or just as healthy as other non-dominant, non-agressive tortoises? When observing grouped tortoises, should take bullying behaviors as one of many potential indicators of good health in a tortoise (as they are obviously getting...
Did I mention how fast they hatch and grow?
It's almost like Gremlins. Also drawing parallels to Gremlins (and ASTs), they're meaner than hell. They are the Gremlin to your cute baby tort's Mogwai, so don't feed tortos after midnight. Thus, the wisdom of ancient (Chinese?) tort-husbands rings...
One potential source of food grade calcium carbonate powder.
I read that a member named shells(sp?) used food grade limestone flour (a.k.a. mainly calcium carbonate) to mold calcium chew blocks for tortoises and had great results. Several in that thread mentioned being excited at the idea and...
Another bulb thread! Shining sullenly with over 160 watts of pessimism.
