    Eight year old size?

This is Bing. He will be eight in August. He’s probably a little over 10 lbs. His foot was down on the ground when trying to weigh him. He’s not quite 12 inches. Just curious as to thoughts on if he’s small for his age? He’s been a hard keeper. My sulcata is totally smooth but this guy was hard...

Is it good idea to have a rhino iguana ?

Glad to see this response Tom. This is my question too. I have 2 tortoises and looking at possible getting a big lizard but I don't want something aggressive. Will look into the others you mentioned instead of the iguanas.

    Green iguanas?

I have a 5 yo female sulcata and a 4 yo male leopard. Thinking about adding an iguana to our family. But don't know enough about them. Anyone had them a long time and can tell me pros and cons, diet, and especially habitat? Also do they have personality to make a decent pet? I know they aren't...

    almost 3 - pyramiding/growth

Thanks! I'm glad u questioned the weight. He is really under 5 lbs NOT 10. I had hurriedly weighed him on a scale n photographed it. In the picture I thought it showed 9 lbs 9.7 ounces because the 4 looks like 9 in the photo. But I went back n reweighed him n it's a 4. I thought that seemed...

    almost 3 - pyramiding/growth

the first image is his indoor enclosure now. The second show his daily lettuce disaster. The third is the original enclosure he was in until around 2 years old. I raised my sulcata in both these n she is extremely smooth. I haven't taken a photo of his outdoor pin he is in during the day but I...

    Winter Activities

my sulcata went through this recently in her utdoor enclosure and i upped the temps inside her night box to 93 degrees fahrenheit and she immediately started eating a lot more and got active again. if i lower the temp to under 90, she slows her eating down. maybe raise temps and see if that helps?

i used coco coir in my enclosed chamber indoors on plywood. i never had my substrate mold. i used kennel seal on all the inside plywood in my box. recently cleaned it out good and while the plywood was damp from where my tort had spilled the water bowl, there was no wear to the plywood at...

    outdoor night box low humidity

we have our night box finished outdoors, but i'm struggling with low humidity in there. like 19-20%. i realize it's outdoors and my torts 3 years old, so i'm not concerned about getting high humidity, but that oil heater is really drying it out and the hay in the box is really brittle. it's...

    heat problem surprised

now my only problem is i'm having withdrawals from having her inside my house in her enclosed chamber. it'll take me awhile to get used to her living outdoors full-time now. not looking forward to going out in the snow to do chores to feed her each day either. i'm gonna really look forward to...

    heat problem surprised

we just threw the fan in there today, to see how much it would help. so that's why that white cord is just strung across there and not tacked up to the side of the wall. it has helped a little. the temp in the floor corner is now 59. but that's still not warm enough. and that's with that...

    heat problem surprised

well, hubby checked all the wiring and it's fine. we plugged the heater in by itself and bypassed the thermostat and there was no difference, so it's not the thermostat. we moved a thermometer to check temp immediately above the heater and it registered 89 degrees for the high. keep in mind...

my husband actually wired in an electric box inside the night box. he said he would get a voltage meter tomorrow and check and make sure it was working right and see if that could be an issue.

finally got our night box finished. plugged in the mini oil filled heater into a thermostat, set it on 85 and can't get it over 70 degrees today and that's up towards the top of the box. the floor is only 50. high today outside was probably 45. we are having a 2 day extreme cold snap. (my...
