Thank you for your well wishes. Yes, we are taking Smiley. I am in the Food Safety and Food Quality business. My degree will be in Animal Science, but I really enjoy working with food pathogens, and so forth.
I will be done with school in May, and I have taken a job in Columbus, Oh. Just wondering if anyone is from there or lives there. Looking for tips about where to live, where NOT to live, etc.
Thanks,
Evan
Hello All,
I was wondering if Smiley is an adult yet. I measured her plastron at 6 and 1/4 inches, and her SCL is 7 inches.
I think last year, I measured her plastron at 4 inches.
I was just wondering what constitutes a tortoise becoming an "Adult"
I have strongly believed that you never write emails or call people when you are angry. When I see a post or thread that I find inflammatory, or annoying, I just pass on it. I can appreciate passion about topics, but I feel that once anger and frustration appear, people start to feed on it...
Actually, Here in Iowa, we are going through a heat wave. It was actually 28 degrees F. However, we did get socked pretty good with snow last week.
So, would you say you are experiencing an Alberta Clipper?
I was wondering if anybody knew how long Mazuri will stay good for. Assuming, of course, that I keep it dry and put away. I just didn't know if there is an experation date, or anything like that. I am thinking about buying a big bag, but I don't want to waste it. My local pet store ran out...
Not to go off topic, but my wife and I loaned a lot of baby clothes and baby stuff to a neighbor who claimed to be "poor and struggling." A couple of months later, my wife saw that she was trying to sell all of our stuff at her garage sale.
People can be real bums, sometimes.
I don't think she really favors one side to the other. Sometimes she is in the cool side, other times, she is under her light. She seems to sleep all over the enclosure.
I took smiley in for a RI. They put her on Baytril. She is fine now, but I wonder if it was a classic case of a vet without tort experience trying to impress a new client. He told me to buy one of those big pig mats and raise the ambient temp around the enclosure to mid to high 80s.
Thanks...

Does anyone have any input. Smiley (Greek) has a cool side of about 74F, and the vet said I should look into a pig heat mat into her substrate, but those run about $100. I was wondering if this would do a good...
