Thanks guys. His house,is about 90 most days it is,shaded and vented. He loves his new pool. Did not like me filling in his hole. I think he Gabe me the middle claw,a,few times but he had dug it even deeper and the, walk way to the other side of my yard was getting spongy if that makes sense...
He has a 5ft by 4 ft insulated dog house. Heated in winter and vented to stay cool in summer. Of course we are in central Florida and it's just about 2 degrees above he'll a lot of days. I will fill it in since it's getting so big. We did put in a pool for him this weekend. It doesn't look to...
Help- I've had my tort ( willie) for about 8 years. He has, started burrowing under a hibiscus tree. It wasn't to big to start with but came home today and he has doubled the size right under a section of the yard we walk on a lot. What should I do. Fill it. Leave it. Put him in the corner...
wow. great ideas. I'm going to copy a little from each of you. maybe a French drain under the drain. my dad is helping me and I'm sure he will engineer something. he loves his grand-tort as he calls him. I'll keep you guys up dated!!! thanks again.
how does your guy get in and out of the kiddie pool. I'm still freaked out Willie will flip over. lol!! the only thing that worries me with a concrete pool is cleaning it out. ideas???
hey guys!! my sulcata ( Willie) is about 50 pounds. he has out grown his bird bath well a while back - anyway. I'm not able to give him a mud hole so I'd like to form him a concrete pool. my question is how big should I go: depth and circumstance??? any input would be wonderful. thanks in advance
update. I think the finders of the Reddit are going to keep it. they came and checked out my sulcatas habitat and I printed all kinds of great info off this site. I'll keep everyone posted if they change there mind.
thanks. if the girl doesn't keep him bill do that. I'm afraid this site still has me confused. not so good at looking at all the areas on my phone app.
actually I think the people who found him. might be keeping him. they have come over and checked out my sulcata area and I printed the girl like 40 pages off of this site. I'm waiting to hear I'll keep you guys ousted. the girl is like 14 and lives her animals so I think it will be a good fit.
a friend of mine found a red foot tort in central Florida area. no posting that anyone is missing it. So we are looking for a forever home for it. I will post pictures as soon as I get some but if someone is interested. please let me know. I hv a sulcata and don't have room for two torts.
Hey has anyone ever given their sulcata calabaza squash? It's a white squash. I was given some but I wanted to double check with you guys before I gave any to Willie! Thank you!
Welcome. I am also in florida. Central between Tampa and Orlando. I have a 10 year old male named Willie. We constructed a house for him. It has an oil filled heater for winter. I try not to let his temps get below 65 during our winters. Tom has excellent info. I wouldn't have made it through...
Where in florida are you? I'm in lakeland. My guy is almost 8 lives outside all year now. Thanks to the forum and Tom he has a better house than me.. I rescued him so his shell is not near as nice as yours. Does look much better than when I got him.
I've noticed willies poop can be a little soft if he has had to much fruit. Do you notice any worms or anything in it? About every six months I give him half a can of regular pumpkin to help clean anything out.
I'm in lakeland, fl. And my sully spent better part of an hour playing in the rain and grazing this morning too! But then when it's hot I'll turn the sprinkler on in his area and he will walk through the water or just sit right in the middle of the running water and not move!
Ah. Thanks you guys. You have no idea how much those kind words mean to me. Especially you Tom! I know I bugged you for hours and days on end to get help for him!
