I'm sure it was two people but the guys wife returned her. I also heard alot of bad things were happening to the family. Their dog and...

    A story you won't believe!

I have a pair a adult sulcattas tortoises. Last march (2009) my female was stolen in the middle of the night. Taken right out of her shed. I was heart broken and very upset. I always had a feeling about who stole her but kept it to myself. I knew the person took her because He knew she was a...

    PLs help me... newbie here~~

God it seems to me everytime someone from Asia or another country gets a star tortoise it gets sick and the people who own them don't have a clue as to how to take care of them and neither do the vets they take them to. My advice is stop buying star torts in Asia. Leave them alone. And if you...

    New enclosure.. safe plants?

You just don't seem to get it about the glass aquarium. It doesn't matter that the top is open glass aquariums are no good for tortoises of any kind. Regardless of size.

    Overeating and edible landscaping

Tortoises are generally not gluttonous, they know when they are full. If your tort eats the edible landscaping I would let her. Also she may be hungrier than normal especially if she just cane out of hibernation. Try feeding her smaller portions of food several times throughout the day...

    Substrate for Indian Stars

I line the bottom with newspaper then in one corner I shred a bunch of newspaper and let them dig around in that. It is cheap and easy to clean. But if it sunny and not cold I put them outside in their pen that has natural grass and weeds.

    New Star Owner

I live in Hawaii so it is sunny almost all the time. When I am at home I place them in an outdoor pen that has grass fully grown in. That's how I let them exercise but only when I'm home so I can keep a close eye on them. There are also rocks and several small hides in the outdoor enclosure...

    New Star Owner

I agree newspaper is the absolute best. Easy to clean no worries about ingestion and it absorbs water and their urine. I use newspaper on the bottom of their enclosure and at one end I shrewd a bunch and put it in a pile so they can burrow. I also have a cracked flower pot that they use as a hide.
