    New hatchling, shell question

Thank you for the help! The parents do have different shapes, I never knew if it was from traits or from pyramiding. I rescued them from a pet store and they were full grown with terrible pyramiding, but otherwise the adults are healthy. I haven't ever left the hatchlings in the incubator. I...

    New hatchling, shell question

At this point, I am not. I have sphagnum moss in the enclosure. I had a mister for the adults, but I had to order one online for the babies, as I couldn't find one locally. It still hasn't arrived. Maybe that will solve the problem? I'm the meantime, I have been soaking them Nd changing the...

    New hatchling, shell question

Hello! Sorry it has been so long since I have posted! Time can get away from me! I recently had two red foot tortoise hatchlings and another egg ready to hatch at anytime. I have had several Russian tortoise eggs hatch, but these are the first redfoots I have had. I wasn't sure if I should post...

    Eggs!

Haha! I was so excited I forgot that part! They are red foots. [hr] Thanks! I keep the Russian tortoise eggs around 88-87 and didn't have any trouble. I don't want it to be too hot, I think I will try to keep it around 85. Patience is a virtue when waiting for eggs to hatch.

    Eggs!

I know it's been sometime since I've been on the forum, life seems to get in the way sometimes! But on a brighter note, I rescued a male and female from a local pet store. They are adults ( Tyler and Marla are their names) and have some pretty bad pyramiding, but they have been doing great since...

    More strange eating behaviors!

Just an update... I am still having trouble with the little guy eating, but he does drink a lot during his daily soaks. He doesn't seem to like his water dish. When I left for work today, I gave him some dandelion greens, mazuri and mango. I placed the food on a flat piece of slate to see if it...

    More strange eating behaviors!

It's much warmer and humid in his enclosure than our house. He does have some plants, a hiding spot and a clean dish. I guess I will keep trying to feed him on the floor and his enclosure and see how it goes

    More strange eating behaviors!

I posted awhile back about a juvie redfoot who I rescued from a pet store... He wouldn't eat at the store and quite frankly I didn't think he would still be alive! However, he will only eat food outside. As I live in PA, the weather lately has been cold and rainy and he can't always be outside...

    Strange eating behavior

I would, but I live in NW pa. There are many days, including summer days where it is just too cold for him to be out. It is supposed to be in the 50s this weekend :(

    Strange eating behavior

At this time I don't. I've had the little one less than a week. I was going to buy a powersun bulb this weekend. I use them on my other torts and they seem to work well. I need to raise it up for him as well, since they can be powerful. I wasn't sure if he would make it, as the pet store told...

    Mazuri at Petco

My local pet food store didn't sell it either. However, they ordered me some and said I had to buy the whole case. It was a case of 1 pound bags and I know I paid less than $60. Much cheaper than petco for sure!

    Strange eating behavior

I posted a few days ago, about a redfoot juvenile I rescued from a pet store. He is very underweight and his eyes wouldn't open. I have been soaking him often, and haven't had a problem with his eyes since. However I am having a difficult time feeding him. He wouldn't even eat banana! I've never...

    I did it again!

It didn't look like the little guy ate any food today. But hopefully he will eat some dandelions while I have him outside! I keep soaking him and he's not lethargic. Here's hoping for the best!

    I did it again!

In Erie. I would rather shop at a local pet store, but this is very discouraging. There is a local pet food store I went to find mazuri. No one carries it here, at least not for torts. The owner ordered me a whole box of one pound bags. He said he had to buy it buy the box. I am sure I could...

    I did it again!

Lol :) he is sleeping now, I can get a good pic of him tomorrow. I bought him at a local pet store here in PA. Several months ago, I found a male and female redfoot with terrible pyramiding. I rescued those too. I think it might be a wise decision not to go back. Their animals are pricey and not...

    I did it again!

Thanks for the advice. I bought him Friday night. I soaked him then and at least three times today and yesterday. I will keep at it and give him/her some juicy foods for a bit.

    I did it again!

So I was at the pet store buying some coco coir... There was a baby redfoot tortoise who was absolutely cute. He must be just four inches, maybe a little bigger. He was so light when I picked him up. He must be two or three times the size of my baby russian that hatched in Feb. However, he is...

    Which Mazuri to feed?

I recently bought Mazuri as a supplement to the diet of my box turtle. I would also like to feed some to my red foots as well. Can I use the turtle Mazuri for both? I though redfoots needed some protein... or should I buy the tortoise and turtle Mazuri? Thanks for the help!

    Pyramiding

Lol, those tortoises love hunger strikes until they get what they want. I feed it about twice a month. I did buy them at a mom and pop store. They seem very knowledgable about reptiles, so I was concerned when I saw they had pyramided tortoises. But they both seem healthy. The store also has a...
