I would do the ceramic heat,I read a couple places that tortoises dont see the red light.....dont believe it.......I tested that theory and my torts see fine with that red light on in fact I think it could keep them awake.
I've been wondering the same thing,seems like when mine want to see me they have no problem seeing me across the yard. Other times they just seem to not give a damn.

So how about the heating,should I get a heating pad that covers the whole floor? or just half.I plan on using a reostat so I can adjust the temps with a dial.
Does anyone know where to find plastic stripping to cover a doghouse door? tried lowes,all they sold was dog doors for stupid high prices.
Is there anything else I can use like carpet cut in strips?
Also,I dont know weather to just use a ceramic heat bulb,or to go out and buy a kane heating...

Forgot to mention a couple things........If making a cement pond,make sure you make it so you can use a broom and design it so you can easily clean it.Cause they WILL poop and pee in it,plus when the water gets too warm and stagnent its easy to just brush it out and fill it up again.

I live in phoenix as well,What I have is a shallow pond with shade over it(big umbrella) I made it out of concrete so its easy to clean with a hose and broom. She will sit in there when shes hot and just chill out.
I also turn the sprinklers on for her a few times a day,she will come right up...

The problem with pictures is,they seem to make it look worse then it is,so sometimes its hard to tell.
I have like 30 pictures of mine and in half of them the pyramiding looks alot worse then it is,the other half it doesnt look nearly as bad.but all taken in the same...

I was wondering why all the big ones are so light and almost pale,while the younger ones are alot darker.
I was curious,the new sulcata I adopted has pyramiding.Now that she is out in the sun,eating grasses,getting exercise water ect. ,as she grows will it "fill in"?
Shes only about 8 pounds so she has alot of growth yet.
I know it doesnt go away.....but Im not sure if they will just look alot...
UPDATE:Shes settling in nicely. She has been out and about the last 3 days ,munching on grass and playing in the sprinkler.
I even caught her sitting directly on top of the sprinkler almost as if to say" turn this bad boy on,I want some water!"

Yeh the food by hand thing works everytime,problem is she thinks hand and toes are food,she doesnt bite,but inspects.
I havnt let her try to bite my toes,but she probably would try if given the chance.
